Oscar Valladares revealed the McFly at the PCA trade show this year in Las Vegas. It is a sequel of sorts to the Super Fly that came out in 2019 that we reviewed here. The Super Fly was a 1970’s themed cigar sharing the name with the 1972 film. It also happened to be the companies strongest cigar to date. With the Oscar Valladares McFly, we move to the 1980’s with an obvious nod to the 1985 film Back to the Future and its main character, Marty McFly. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend for Oscar Valladares McFly uses a Mexican wrapper, Honduran binder, and filler tobacco from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Dominican Republic. It comes in three size options: Toro (6 x 52) – $11.50, Churchill (7 x 48) – $12.00, and Sixty (6 x 60) – $12.50. All comes in boxes of 20. The cigars are rolled at the Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co factory in Danlí, Honduras.

Oscar Valladares McFly Toro

I smoked three cigars and found two different profiles. While I liked the outlier profile more than the other two, I’d actually like a cigar that would be somewhere in between the two profiles. I found the rich peanut butter flavors enjoyable, but the cigar wasn’t particularly balanced after the first third due to how dominant the peanut butter flavors were. By contrast, smoking the other two McFlys—particularly the one sample smoked after the outlier cigar—left me wishing there was more richness. The good news is that all three cigars were pretty enjoyable. Not the best I’ve had from Oscar Valladares, but yet another solid release from the company.
