Some loosened seams which tighten on heating. A big vein runs most of its length. Tight-ish draw loosens after the opening third, but remains somewhat sluggish. Helter-Skelter smoke out-put. Cap/shoulder dilapidated a tick. Texture is smooth with straight-forward notes of wood beginning unkindly, then settling. Brownie, black pepper, chili powder, grains, compost. Nicely balanced sans transitioning. Goodly nuances once woods settle.

Punch pumps out plenty of medium to full-bodied smokes you can scoop up for an affordable price, and today I’m smoking Punch Gran Puro Nicaragua in a Robusto that’s just under 5 inches with a 48 ring gauge. I spend a good amount of time at the campground with my wife and kids during the warmer months, and I never hesitate to add new cigars to my summer rotation.

I found the Punch Gran Puro Nicaragua 5 1/2 x 54 presenting me with a bit of a Goldilocks problem: one cigar was too rough and bitter, one struggled to burn and offered some rougher flavors, while the third was just about right in terms of both flavor and combustion. The combination of Connecticut broadleaf and Nicaraguan tobacco is a familiar one, and at its best the Punch Gran Puro Nicaragua does a good job combining the two into flavors that can be complex and lush, with good levels of sweetness to balance the heavier earth and pepper notes that are more than abundant. Yet I find myself thinking too much about what the cigar did wrong, as when that balance is thrown off, the results are quite bad, and when compounded by burn issues make the cigar quite off-putting. That all said, I still have hopes for this line, as I think it can deliver a very enjoyable experience when all the components align; hopefully that's the cigar you select should you end up trying one.

The flavor profile carried earthiness and cocoa through the first third and then moved into a pretty standard profile of earthiness and wood the rest of the way. The price point on this cigar is great, so even though the flavors didn't wow me, it was very consistent and would allow someone who finds this cigar a fit for them to go pretty deep on them as a daily smoke.
