Romeo y Julieta Reserve Rare 11 Years Old by Altadis U.S.A.
Cigar Coop · May 3, 2018
At the 2016 IPCPR Trade Show, Altadis U.S.A. introduced a limited edition offering under its Romeo y Julieta line known as the Romeo y Julieta Reserve Rare 11 Years Old. The name of this cigar tells the story of it – namely, these were cigars that were aging for 11 years at Altadis U.S.A.’s Honduran […] Key flavors: Cocoa, Natural Tobacco, Cedar, Pepper.

Initial puffs of leather and cinnamon segue into a nutty smoke of almonds and marzipan before the warm, toasty finish. Burn and draw are perfect throughout.

Vegetal | Coffee beans | Nuts/woods Quite vegetal at least on its onset, but far from being raw-bitey green. Roasted and toasted grains and darkly sweet grasses hit on a neat savoriness. Dusty and non-descript spices are accompanied by a kindly-cracked black peppercorn. Almonds and black walnuts, heavy on their shells, evolve into lively hardwoods of excellent structure and delineation. That said, not all notes are fully-formed, many are vague while bold. Nicely balanced and goodly nuanced, espe

I have to say, the Romeo y Julieta Reserve Rare 11 Years Old was an incredibly difficult cigar to figure out. While there is no doubt that the profile can be nicely complex at times with flavors I don’t taste very often jumping in and out at random, there is also no doubt that the three samples I smoked were inconsistent: one below average, one decent and the last sample excellent. Two things that were consistent were the construction—which was excellent overall on all three —and the strength, which was well-integrated. In the end, the Romeo y Julieta Reserve Rare 11 Years Old is a very good cigar if you happen to end up with a good sample, but not worth the time or the money if you don’t.

Today, I’m smoking a classic Cuban-legacy brand you’re likely aware of – Romeo y Julieta. I’ve decided to pick up a Romeo y Julieta Reserve, a blend handmade in Honduras from premium Nicaraguan and Honduran binder and filler tobaccos tucked under an oily Nicaraguan wrapper leaf. I’m smoking a 6-inch Toro with a thick 56 ring gauge diameter. It’s just one of many cigars adorned with the famous Romeo y Julieta band. Romeo y Julieta cigars are made in four countries today: Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Honduras.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews
