Pete Johnson doesn't deny it: his Tatuaje Fausto is the strongest cigar in his portfolio. Created as a private blend for a Hawaiian retailer, Fausto became a full commercial line in 2011, taking its name from a discontinued vintage Cuban cigar brand. The horned image of Mephistopheles burned into the cabinet's lid echoes the original box art and references the tale of Dr. Faustus, an ambitious scholar who made a pact with the devil. The smoke is a dense, concentrated cigar, full of coffee bean, earth, white pepper and a sweet hint of molasses. This is not a mild smoke, and it's obviously intended for those who prefer full-bodied blends. With a retail price of less than $10, you can have this very strong experience without feeling as though you've sold your soul.

Tatuaje Limited Series Fausto FT114

This is a better cigar than where it was 15 months ago. It's smoother, more complex and yet still quite full. If you've been holding onto a few with a year of rest on them, now's a great time to light up at least one. The drop-off for strength will presumably happen, my recollection of the last original Fausto I smoked said that happened slightly after a year and a half, but each size will presumably be different. Regardless, a good cigar got better.

The Tatuaje Fausto The Old Man and the C Lancero is a solid lancero and my experience when I was done was that this was not as strong as the original Fausto, but more complex overall as a blend. The flavors were superior. There was balance and substance with this cigar. Really well made cigar.
