Tatuaje 7th Tuxtla
Simply Stogies · Nov 25, 2022
Those in the know, know that San Andrés Tuxtla (a city in the Los Tuxtla region of the Mexican state of Veracruz) is where most of Mexico’s premium cigar industry is located. This is where Mexican San Andrés comes from. Pete Johnson blended the Tuxtla line to stand up to the strong flavors of the...

This dark, box-pressed cigar is made with a closed foot, which takes to flame evenly. An even draw leaves impressions of earth, pepper and nuts joined by touches of coffee bean and cocoa powder before a finish that hints of chocolate-covered almond.

Back in 2012, Tatuaje Cigars released a cigar called the Tatuaje Mexican Experiment. The cigar was at the time a limited and regional release that quickly developed a cult-following. The cigar was pretty much exactly as advertised – Pete Johnson’s experimenting with the Mexican wrapper. While Johnson has done other Mexican releases, including bringing back […] Key flavors: Mocha (Coffee, Chocolate), Earth, Cedar, Pepper, Vegetal Nos.

Tatuaje 7th Tuxtla is another Mexican San Andrés hit done by Pete Johnson. The unique flavors of rich, burnt earth, herbal tea, cream, and cardamom bring so much for the palate to enjoy during the smoking experience. Even though the look of the cigar is on the rustic side, there is a lot going on under the hood, turning out to be a well-constructed and flavorful cigar. I think this would be nice to have as a regular production in the future, to be able to pick from time to time. I look forward to see what comes next in the Tuxtla line from Pete Johnson.

Tatuaje has long been a favorite brand of mine, and while the Exclusive Series 2026 Tuxtla is not in the top-tier of the company’s releases, it is a very enjoyable blend featuring a great combination of cocoa nibs combined with some nice meatiness and woodiness. There is also plenty of spice and pepper throughout, but I think the cigar is missing a more prominent sweetness that would have really put the experience into another category for me.Read full review on Halfwheel

In my opinion, in true, fairly typical fashion, Pete nails the body. There aren't that many good cigars with medium plus body these days, but Pete seems to know how to achieve that and pair it with flavors that compliment it quite well. Even with this said, I still prefer the Habano versions of the Brown Label. But this Tatuaje 7th Tuxtla was neat to smoke for a little change up.
