Aging Room Cigars Bin No. 2
Featuring rare tobaccos sourced from aging bin number two, this cigar is handcrafted at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic. Clothed in a toothy Nicaraguan Criollo '98 wrapper over aged Dominican binder and filler leaves, it releases a refined medium-to-full smoke delivering rich loam earth, cracked black pepper, and dark baker's cocoa.

Aging Room Bin No. 2 C Major

Last year Rafael Nodal announced a sequel to his line Aging Room Bin No. 1. Aging Room Bin No. 2 uses the same concept with a new blend. The project focuses on specific lots, or bins, of extra aged tobacco. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Aging Room Bin No. 2 is a Nicaraguan puro focusing on tobacco from Ometepe from the Plasencia family. The blend uses a Nicaraguan wrapper, Ometepe binder, and fillers from Estelí and Jalapa. It comes in three vitolas, all in boxes of 20: C Major (5 3/4 x 54), B Minor (5 x 52), and Grande (6 x 60). They are rolled at the Plasencia Cigars S.A. factory.

In the beginning, before it was acquired by Altadis USA, Aging Room’s portfolio con-sisted entirely of Dominican-made cigars like the Bin No. 1 that made our 2014 rank-ings. Bin No. 2, which is made at the Plasencias’ gorgeous Estelí factory using that family’s tobacco, is easily the most exciting cigar in the Aging Room lineup.

The Aging Room Bin No. 2 C Major had a nice first third, but from the second third on, started dropping flavors and became fairly average. The tight draw and light smoke production caused me to have to pay attention to the draws to keep things burning, which took some focus away from the flavor. I'd be interested in trying this in a smaller ring gauge to see what that effect that has on flavor.
