Cohiba from General Cigar ‘s latest addition, Cohiba Blue, is a different take on the Cohiba brand, which is always been in the luxury priced range. Instead, this is a more budget-friendly Cohiba. Andres Maturen, brand manager of Cohiba said, “With Cohiba Blue, we present collection that speaks to the ethos of the Cohiba brand. Made with a curated selection of tobaccos, handcrafted by renowned artisans, and created for all those who seek the indulgence of a fine cigar, Cohiba Blue symbolizes a life well lived.” This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Jhonys Diaz blended a medium-bodied cigar with a rosado-hued Honduran Olancho San Agustin (OSA) wrapper and took a unique approach by selecting Honduran OSA for the binder as well. The blend consists of Honduran Jamastran, Nicaraguan Ometepe and Dominican Piloto Cubano. The unique, three-country blend represents the a wide range of tobacco growing regions. The cigars are protected hand-painted bright blue wooden boxes, each containing 20 cigars. When I got the news of a new Cohiba coming to market, my initial reaction was a mix of skepticism and questioning, summed up in the thought "do we really need another Cohiba line? While the question hasn't been completely answered, I have to admit that this is a quite good addition to the line, provided you like what Honduran tobacco has to offer. The Cohiba Blue offers a solid journey from start to finish in both flavor and strength, and while the profile might overstep at times, that's about the only thing I have to complain about. Through most of the cigar the flavors are deep and rich, rarely leaving anything other than a wanting for that next puff, capped off by an outstanding technical performance. While I can't promise that this will become your everyday, affordable Cohiba, I can say with confidence that if you try one, you'll almost certainly be as impressed as I was.

Cohiba Blue takes a bold approach, offering the latest addition to the well-known line in a vibrant , yet simplistic, blue presentation. The design is eye-catching and will most likely persuade even the cigar's critics to put the new blend to the test. The outcome? We found the cigars to showcase light and interesting flavors throughout the first half—with a sudden turn towards dark and occasionally overheated flavors in the second. Cohiba Blue's shining moment was a striking note of peanut butter within the cigar's fist inch. This combined with an impressive construction/burn to summarize the cigar's most decisive moments. It was a tight draw, general lack of sweetness (to balance the overall dry smoking texture), and lack of progression/darkening/harsh-ities in the second half that pulled our score down a few pegs; making for a slightly difficult recommendation when taking the cigar's relatively high price point into consideration.

Cohiba Blue is the latest Cohiba brand cigar from General Cigar, as of May 2017. Cohiba Blue cigars are made with Honduran OSA wrappers and binders, and a blend of filler tobaccos from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Dominican Republic. The cigars are available in four sizes, including the Robusto (5½ x 50) sampled for this review. The SRP is $9.99 per single stick, but I have seen 5-packs online for as low as $40.95 (average of $8.19 per cigar). For more info about these cigars, please check out thepress release. Cohiba Blue is a medium bodied cigar, and if I was doing a blind taste test, I would have guessed that it was a Macanudo. This cigar is not as full as other cigars in the Cohiba line, but that is not a bad thing. I enjoy medium bodied cigars more than many full bodied sticks, especially during the warmer spring and summer months. A good medium bodied cigar can usually appeal to all levels of cigar smokers, from beginners to connoisseurs. The cigar began with an enjoyable spicy flavor that was just about right, just a bit subdued and not in your face. The cigar also had just the right amount of natural tobacco sweetness, which revealed itself early during the smoke (right at the start in one sample, and within five minutes in another). During the first 30 minutes, the spice gradually faded as the cigar became smoother. A few earthy notes became noticeable, but these are not what I would call earthy cigars. I really enjoyed the flavors during the first half of the cigar, and liked it much more than the Cohiba Red Dot cigar, but not quite as much as theCohiba Macassar(which is more expensive). I would rate the first 30 minutes of the Cohiba Blue with a superior rating of 4.25 points on a 5-point scale. The flavor of these cigars began to noticeably decline after the 30-minute mark. In addition, a couple of touch-up lights were needed for one sample, and the other needed a relight and a couple of touch-ups during the second 30 minutes of the cigar. Total smoke time from start to finish was one hour for each cigar, down to 2½ inches remaining. The sample cigars had a good draw and held a medium-to-long ash. The burn was not perfectly even, but the cigars did maintain a relatively even burn, except for needing a couple of touch-ups as previously indicated. I rate the second half of this cigar with an average score of 3.5 points, but the taste had dropped to 3 points at the very end. I recommend Cohiba Blue to all levels of cigar smokers. However, don't feel that you have the smoke the cigar for an hour down to a couple of inches or so remaining. A very good to superior Robusto cigar that can be enjoyed for 45 minutes at a price of just over $8 might not be considered a bargain, but it is the going price in today's market, especially for the latest line of Cohiba's.

It’s tough to imagine paying $14 or $15 for a bargain cigar, but Cohiba Blue was introduced as the “affordable Cohiba” back in 2017, so today I’m smoking a 6-by-54 Toro to find out if it’s worth every penny. Cohiba is among the most famous Cuban brands, alongside Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta. Of course, the Cohiba cigars we get in the States are made in the Dominican Republic or Nicaragua by the brand’s parent company, General Cigar, which also owns Macanudo, Punch, and La Gloria Cubana.

The cigar had a tasty profile with just enough transitions and build-ups to keep me engaged the entire time. This is one cigar I will happily smoke at any time knowing it will be consistently good.
