Cohiba Rubicon Robusto
Stogie Press · Dec 8, 2025
Earlier in 2025, Cohiba Cigars added a wallet friendly cigar as a full time addition to its portfolio. The company noted that it is a deliberate evolution of the brand’s renowned blending philosophy. Known as the Rubicon, it is built from six distinct tobaccos sourced from five of the world’s most respected growing regions and Read more about Cigar Review: Cohiba Rubicon Robusto – Rated 94[…]

A creamy smoke overall, this dark, thick cigar shows an herbal side before an interim note of sour cherry bridges the toasted marshmallow finish. Its draw and burn are even throughout.

Mulling Spice | Dried Orange Peel | Oiled Leather Add to the primary notes italicized above: An up close stone minerality, unsweetened chocolate, manure, pecan, and faraway apricot; in that order of distance. Draws a half-tick stubbornly. Burns evenly. Holds assemblage stoically. Splendid ash. Consistent and sating, if not in possession of great depth.

Today we review the Cohiba Rubicon in the Box-Pressed Robusto. This is the most inexpensive Cohiba released from STG to date. Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Cedar, Earth, Mesquite, Pepper.

This is the second time I've smoked and reviewed a value-priced Cohiba, the other being the Cohiba Blue back in 2017, and I have to say I have been impressed both times. Neither cigar is perfect and each have their rough spots, but none are total detriments to the experience and may end up smoothing themselves out over time. In the case of the Cohiba Rubicon Box-Pressed Robusto, it's the earthiness, which doesn't quite feel dialed in for my palate and which can get a bit excessive at certain points. But the rich, lush creaminess and balanced pepper are both standouts, while the dry wood flavor is enjoyable and stimulating, if only a bit mouth-drying. Construction was generally good though I can't excuse the combustion issues, something I also hopes works itself out. But make no mistake, the Cohiba Rubico is an enjoyable cigar that gets a recommendation from me.

Cohiba Rubicon cigars are made in Honduras with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, U.S. Broadleaf binder, and a blend of filler tobaccos from Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. These cigars were released during August 2025 in three modestly priced sizes. This is a review of the box-pressed Robusto (5.5 x 55) priced at $8.49 per cigar. The Toro (6 x 54) and Gigante (6 x 60) sizes are priced at $8.99 and $9.49, respectively. For more information about these cigars, please see thepress release. The sample Cohiba Rubicon cigar began with a smooth and creamy flavor along with a dose of spice. The body was medium. After 20 minutes, I ashed the cigar for the first time. The flavor stayed pretty consistent, but the body moved up a bit to medium-plus. The cigar had a very good draw and delivered a nice volume of smoke. It held a long ash and had a mostly even burn. At this point in time, a slightly uneven burn quickly corrected itself without the need for a touch-up. After an additional 15 minutes, I ashed the cigar for the second time. Both the flavor and the body remained consistent. After another 15 minutes (as the cigar was nearing the end) the burn again became a bit uneven but the cigar went out by itself five minutes later. The flavor was not overly complex and remained pretty much consistent with only slight variations during the 55 minutes that it took me to smoke the sample Cohiba Rubicon Robusto down to two inches remaining. During that time, no relights nor touch-ups were required. The Cohiba Rubicon is a very good value, especially for being a box-pressed Cohiba priced at only $8.49 per cigar. Although the flavors were somewhat consistent, it was an enjoyable smoke for 55 minutes (and also has a size of 5.5 x 55 by some coincidence) and is worthy of very good rating of 4 points on a 5-point scale. It's medium body is suitable for most levels of cigar smokers. Anyone who ever wanted to try a Cohiba but price was an issue, this cigar is for you!

Rubicon initially brings heavy doses of spice and earth. There’s some type of chocolate lingering in the back, but it’s overpowered. Maybe later, buddy.Draw starts out a bit resistant but loosens up fairly quickly. The initial spice tapers out quickly as well.Lightly salted sweet butter briefly makes its way into t

Developing Palates · Mar 6, 2026 · August 2025
In the end, this Cohiba Rubicon Box-Pressed Robusto is a cigar that starts stronger than it finishes. It delivers enough early balance and flavor clarity to avoid falling below an Average rating, but the gradual loss of nuance and increasing dominance of earth prevent it from climbing higher. It’s a competent, every day type of smoke that will appeal to those who enjoy earth-forward profiles, though it may leave others wanting a bit more evolution and refinement by the time the cigar comes to an end.
