Crowned Heads showed off an exclusive cigar to attendees of the PCA 2021 Trade Show. Le Pâtissier translates to ‘pastry chef’ in French. Crowned Heads Le Pâtissier is an offshoot of the Crowned Heads Le Carême line that came out in 2016, which was inspired by French chef Marie-Antoine Careme. The two blends sport a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, that’s where the similarities end. This is the first Crowned Heads blend to come out of Tabacalera Pichardo that uses broadleaf. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Crowned Heads Le Pâtissier only comes in one size, a 6 1/2 x 44 lonsdale parejo. The blend starts with a Grade A Dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Nicaraguan (Jalapa) binder, and filler tobaccos from Costa Rica and Nicaragua (Pueblo Nuevo and Ometepe). It is packaged in cabinets boxes of 20 and each cigar has a retail of $10.50. Le Pâtissier is produced at Tabacalera Pichardo in Esteli, Nicaragua, that also rolls the Crowned Heads lines Juarez, and Mil Días.

Licorice and earth drive this inky toro, which draws and burns evenly, but it picks up layers of molasses, ginger and a touch of juniper before a beam of black licorice follows through on the finish.

The Crowned Heads Le Pâtissier delivered some interesting flavor combinations in the first third, leaning towards the espresso and earth spectrum. The second and last thirds were still pleasant but lacked the dynamic nature of the first third. Most of the time Crowned Heads is a hit for me, so I feel like I'd revisit the Le Pâtissier again in the future to see if some age helped that second third harmonize better.

Pat brings a very dark presence. Goth? Earth, wood, chocolate, and cream all succumb to the darkness. Same on the retrohale. Dark wood speaks over a subtle dark coffee. The finish lingers with more darkness by way of dark soil more than anything else. A touch of coffee can be detected but only with some extra search
