The wheaty and raisin-like aromas coming off the cold bouquet of the foot recur on the palate. The cigar also takes on cedary, herbal notes before a coffee finish.

I’m unsure what to make of the H. Upmann The Banker Ingot Rosé in just about every way, including the cigar. All that being said, outside of the cold draw and a few burn issues, I really enjoyed it. The Rosé is the best cigar I’ve smoked from Altadis U.S.A. in a very long time and that’s a problem on a number of levels. One of them is the fact that most people that might enjoy a complex, rich and at times powerful cigar, will never try it. The pink packaging, the $12 price point, the fact the cold draw tastes like paint or the general attitudes of many advanced smokers towards a company like Altadis are all issues, many of them self-inflicted, that will lead the person who might enjoy this cigar to buy something else. The Rosé is not the blend to fix all those issues, but it does show that Altadis U.S.A., or more specifically Tabacalera de García, is capable of blending a legitimate 90+-point cigar, sans some burn issues, and that’s a huge step in the right direction.

H. Upmann set out to try to recreate the original Cuban blend from 170 years ago with Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos…let’s see how they did.

Brother, can you spare a dime? I’m no finance wiz, but today I’m smoking The Banker from H. Upmann in a 6-by-52 Toro called the Annuity. At first, The Banker sounds a bit gimmicky with sizes named Annuity, Arbitrage, and Currency. Altadis U.S.A, however, the parent company and producer of non-Cuban H. Upmann cigars, intended to pay homage to the brand’s founder, Herman Upmann, a German banker who got into the cigar business when he landed in Havana in 1843 to set up an import/export company.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews
The Banker H. Upmann
CigarCzars · Dec 6, 2019
The Banker is an H. Upmann brand of cigars by Altadis, made in the Dominican Republic with a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, Nicaraguan binders, and Ecuadorian Habano wrappers. These cigars are available in three sizes, including the Annuity which was sampled for this review. The Annuity is a Toro-size cigar that measures six inches in length with a ring gauge of 52. Each individual cigar came packaged in a paper wrapping that was secured by two bands, a normal head band and a foot band. Since both bands have to be removed along with the paper wrapping prior to lighting the cigar, the cigar itself was also adorned with a duplicate head band, making for an unique presentation. The Banker Annuity cigar began with a peppery flavor that was medium-to-full bodied. After about ten minutes into the smoke, the taste became less dry and peppery, but pepper was still the predominate flavor. A few minutes later, the cigar became smoother and started to exhibit more of a mild-to-medium leathery flavor. Although I found the flavor to be somewhat nondescript, the construction of this cigar was excellent. The cigar had a great draw, razor-sharp burn, and held a long ash. No relights nor touch-ups were required during the 65 minutes that it took me to smoke the cigar down to 2½ inches remaining. I rate The Banker with a decent 3.25 points on a 5-point scale. Although the average price of $7 per stick when purchased in a 5-pack is not unreasonable, I would not recommend investing in an entire box of Annuity cigars until trying one first.
