Every puff of this long, thin cigar delivers a smoke that’s dense and chewy in texture, and nutty in character. Fruity notes of dried figs, dates and raisins lead to a molasses finish with hints of wood.

Delicately spicy and refreshingly sweet, the Illusione Original Documents Habano is a flavor-forward treat for the Habano junkie. The cigar is very well balanced, providing just the right amount of nostril-stinging spice while leaving the palate clean and refreshed between draws. This is yet another testament to the blending prowess of Dion Giolito, showing he can leave his own Illusione-flavored trail of breadcrumbs from factory to factory and farm to farm.

Let’s get one thing clear up front: this is a very different Illusione blend than what you may be expecting if you have enjoyed Giolito's creations in the past. While the main profile is full of creamy cashews and cedar, there is virtually no change in those flavors from the first puff to the last nearly two hours later. Then there is the red pepper on the retrohale—a note I have rarely tasted in an Illusione cigar—and the strength level, which ends up just under the full mark, certainly stronger than the vast majority of Giolito's blends. In the end, I enjoyed the Original Documents Habano Gordo as the departure from the Illusione norm that it is, but I would not be surprised if some found it to be a more divisive experience.

Best Habano that Illusione has ever released, and best Illusione in some time. While this Illusione Original Documents Habano Corona Gorda is not a breathtaking Habano, there are few of those, this will be a popular and high demand release from Illusione. The flavor profile was solid throughout and there was some complexity and transitioning throughout the thirds. I would definitely smoke again, and would definitely try all of the vitolas.
