Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco Toro

Stogie Press · Dec 13, 2023

The year 2023 marked 55 years since Joya de Nicaragua opened its doors in Nicaragua and cemented itself as the oldest premium cigar brand in the country. In celebration of this milestone, the company rolled out a new brand at the 2023 PCA Trade Show known as Cinco de Cinco and added it to their Read more about Cigar Review: Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco Toro – Rated 95[…]

Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco

Cigar Snob · Jan 10, 2025

Cinco de Cinco translates to Five of Five in English. It is not only a reference to the company’s 55th anniversary but also to the cigar’s quality, which the company says is a “five out of five.” We couldn’t agree more. The blend masterfully manages to be a flavorful San Andrés maduro with the nuanced profile of a much lighter cigar. There aren’t many cigars in the market that execute this balance so flawlessly. In the complexity department, the Cinco de Cinco scores off the charts, going throu

Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco Toro (Pre Release)

Blind Man's Puff · Sep 29, 2023 · TBD

Joya de Nicaragua celebrated its 55th anniversary with a new cigar, Cinco de Cinco, the latest edition to their ultra-premium Obras Maestras line. “This cigar was made with the people, by the people and for the people,” says Juan Ignacio Martínez, Executive President of JDN. “Our past is all about tobacco. Our bright future is all about tobacco. We are here, stronger than ever thanks to our wonderful community of amigos.” This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Joya de Nicaragua was one of the first companies to hold private cigar blending sessions at its factory in Estelí. The company took the data from all those years of blending sessions, finding the most-often chosen tobaccos, and had their master blenders perfect a blend from those tobaccos. Cinco de Cinco is produced with what the company calls “ultra-vintage” tobaccos, including a Mexican San Andres wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers and binders. All sizes come in a soft-pressed format. The cigar box is a bright emerald green. “An emerald symbolizes love, wisdom, growth and prosperity – values very much embodied in this blend,” says Martinez. “It is indeed a rare and mystical jewel.” Cinco de Cinco was first shown off this past July at the PCA Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas. The company said at the time that it would hit U.S. shelves in September and the rest of the globe in October, but as of the publishing of this review, the cigars have not shipped. We reviewed pre-release samples given to us at the PCA trade show. Cinco de Cinco comes in boxes of 10 and in 5 vitolas, three of which will be available in the USA and two exclusive for international markets: Robusto Gordo 5 ½ x 54  $17.95 , Toro 6 x 52 $19.95 , Corona Extra 6 ¼ x 46 $15.95 , Robusto 5 x 50 $15.95 (International  Exclusive), Corona Doble 7 x 54 $20.55 (International  Exclusive).

Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco Corona Extra

Halfwheel · Dec 27, 2023 · September 2023

In thinking back about the Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco, my thoughts get drawn to the second third as the high point of the cigar, with similar yet slightly different roads leading both to that section and away from it. The merging of flavors and harmonizing of components that occurs in that second section is what makes this cigar special, as It seemingly encapsulates the goal of the blend. That said, for as well as it executed the process, and as good as the result was, it didn't deliver the kind of profile that puts a cigar into the upper echelon that the company has reached before. I would still gladly smoke this cigar again, I look forward to smoking some other vitolas, and I've already got this on the calendar for a redux review as I am curious to see what just a bit more time might do to the blend.

Cinco De Cinco by Joya De Nicaragua

Simply Stogies · Feb 9, 2024

This collection started with a cigar that I have enjoyed many times, the Cuatro Cinco released a decade ago. The Cinco de Cinco celebrates the company’s 55th anniversary and was released at the PCA 2023. The company claims the blend was generated with input from consumers and others. I like the idea of bringing the...

Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco Robusto Gordo

Developing Palates · Feb 26, 2024 · November 2023

I enjoyed the Joya de Nicaragua Cinco de Cinco Robusto Gordo, and have enjoyed all the releases in the Obras Maestras portfolio. I would not say this is my favorite, but it is definitely a nice Mexican release and solid medium-full maduro offering. One of the better Mexican releases of late as well. I do appreciate that Joya has kept things different with each of these releases. I look forward to 60 years.

After a nutty, woody start with notes of dark chocolate, oriental spices follow. This cigar is creamy, sweet and spicy and has a relatively quick burn. It is light, and offers plenty of smoke.
