Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Secret Cask

I've long been wary of the benefits of barrel-aging tobacco, at least to the extent that some manufacturers hype it up. While I'm not sure exactly how much the barrel-aging process added to the experience of the Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Secret Cask, I do know that the end result is very good. The first and final thirds offer very enjoyable experiences, showcasing a woody lead note that evokes thoughts of aged spirits barrels, but where the magic really happens is in the second third, when layers of creaminess, sweetness, wood, pepper, chocolate and more come together in a truly special way. The execution is consistently very good, but when it is on, it is truly magical. Construction was also darn near perfect, with only one minor touch-up needed among the three cigars. I definitely think this is a better version of the Cuatro Cinco blend and one I want to get some more of in my humidor as soon as possible.

Box-pressed with a full draw and wavy burn that evens out. The cigar starts sweet with hints of molasses that segue into spicier elements and big notes of hickory.

Overall, the Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Edicion Americana TAA Exclusive was pretty good. It had a nice balance of flavor and strength. This is what I would expect from a TAA release, especially with it coming from an established line, carrying a unique vitola. The price point works for the experience and I'd have no problem coming back to this cigar.
