Joya de Nicaragua Silver Ultra

Joya de Nicaragua added another line to their Joya series at IPCPR 2018, Joya Silver. It joins the Joya Red, Joya Black, and Joya Cabinetta. This line is the first box-pressed of the series and uses a Oscuro upper-priming wrapper grown in Ecuador. From there it has a binder from Mexico and filler leaves from Nicaragua. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Joya Silver comes in four sizes: Ultra – 6.25 x 46, $6.30/cigar, Toro – 6 x 52, $7.80/cigar, Corona – 5.25 x 42, $6.30/cigar, Robusto – 5 x 50, $7.10/cigar.

I was impressed with the Joya Red the first time I smoked it, and I have to say, I am even more impressed after it has aged for eight months. The time has allowed the profile to smooth out quite a bit, with noticeably less pepper on the retrohale and spice on the tongue, although both are still present throughout the smoke. The cherry sweetness on the retrohale was a new note, but really bumped up the complexity of the profile and I hope that sticks around as it continues to age. New or aged, the Joya Red is a winner.

This is a cigar that has a darker profile but not necessarily high in strength. It's something that fits perfect as an after dinner cigar. I could see myself smoking this fairly frequently and I think fans of this flavor profile would as well. If you haven't tried it, it's well worth your time to check out.
