At IPCPR 2016, La Aurora launched three new vitolas sans tube in each of the 7 blends of the “ La Aurora 1903 Edition” line. The company started with the introduction of these formats in the Diamond, Sapphire and Emerald blends. Today we are reviewing the La Aurora Preferidos Diamond Broadleaf Toro. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The three new sizes were: Corona (5 ½ x 42), Robusto (5 x 50) and Toro 5 ½ x 54) priced Prices USD $157.68 USD $177.39 USD $193.16 USD per box respectively. These vitolas were added to give consumers more choices to fit their preferences as well as save on cost as they are offered without the tube originally found over these blends.

I’m a fan of La Aurora cigars, especially the Preferidos line. The Diamond cigar fits right in with the rest as an enjoyable cigar of high quality with a solid flavor profile. Only towards the end did I notice some unpleasant bitterness, but as I stated it wasn’t enough to deter from the strong notes that had persisted throughout the cigar. Overall my only complaint about the cigar is the price point of the Preferidos, which seems steep for the size cigar it is. While you may only pick up one or two for yourself, I can easily recommend picking up a box of these. Whether you want to save them for special occasions or break out these impressive looking tubos to share with friends, you just might find an eight-count box might not be enough.

A near-black perfecto that draws and burns easily. It’s a mostly earthy smoke with notes of minerals, wood and licorice. Sweeter hints of almond cookie also come through before the earthy finish.

Earth, dark & roasted to the brink of charred. Mocha braced by scorched oak barrel. Finely ground black pepper in table syrup. That's it, top-to-bottom. Also, straight-thru. Burns on an even 'nuff line; plenty of smoke out-put. Draws silky smooth, building to a ditto-so texture w/ just the slightest of buzz on tongue. Stays stubbornly well-formed to the tepid nubberino.

The La Aurora Preferidos 1903 Edition Diamond No. 2 Tubos has an enjoyable combination of spices, cedar, sweet malts, chocolate, pepper, barbecue and earth. The construction is flawless, and the overall cigar experience is a good one. The first and second thirds were the highlight of the cigar, with the flavor complexity falling in the last third.
