Montecristo Epic Craft Cured Toro
Blind Man's Puff · Feb 26, 2018
The Montecristo Epic Craft Cured Toro is a line extension of the Montecristo Epic line that was released in 2012. The original Epic was blended by Grupo de Maestros. The Craft Cured was blended by the Plasencia family, who also made the Montecristo Espada in 2014 and the limited edition Montecristo Espada Estoque in 2015. This cigar is a Nicaraguan puro wrapped with a 2006 rosado oscuro wrapper and though each component is said to go through curing in small pilones. The filler has tobacco from Nicaragua from the Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa regions, and the binder comes from Ometepe. The cigar is made in three vitolas packed in 10-count boxes and priced between $14.65 and $16.50 per cigar. Robusto (5 x 52) — $14.65, Toro (6 x 52) — $15.75, Belicoso (6 1/8 x 52) — $16.50. It was released in December.Read full review on Blind Man's Puff

From the nose to the pre-light to the smoking experience, sweetness carries through with the Montecristo Epic Vintage 12 Toro. I always enjoy sweetness in a cigar, but this was more balanced and complex, like the contrast between the maple syrup of your youth vs the less cloying version that your adult self one day began to appreciate. Aside from a hiccup here or there (slightly firm draw, touchups / wavy burn in the first inch), the cigar is truly a showstopper. A good portion of the flavors can be somewhat tricky to nail down (which is fun, so long as you do eventually pin them down), as they're not particularly common. This ranged from cola syrup to cinnamon raisin to sesame honey cashews. And then there's the more nostalgic, esoteric concoction that I've summed up as grandma's coat closet. This is the kind of complexity that cigars do best, playing off our dominant sense of smell that can become so intertwined with specific moments in time. Then again, maybe I just spent too much time playing hide-and-seek and ending up in Grandma's coat closet...

As someone who smokes a steady diet of cigars, many of which I don’t choose as they are for reviews, there are few things I like better than to be genuinely surprised by one of them, which is just what the Montecristo Epic Craft Cured did. After an slightly turbulent take off, the cigar finds its smooth stride quickly, gaining impressive complexity and balance while still offering a good bit of peppery pop. It’s not a flawless cigar, showing a bit of thinness in the profile at times, particularly when the softer notes are left behind, but as all of our writers have said at times, finding even a few spots of greatness in a cigar is a reward unto itself and thankfully the Montecristo Epic Craft Cured has plenty of them.

There's a strong savory core to this large cigar. Bold notes of leather, minerals and wheat are balanced by sweet, floral aspects and a touch of spice.

The iconic Montecristo brand originated in Cuba in the 1930s and has been among the most recognizable cigar labels in the world for generations. Today, Montecristo cigars are also produced in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, and I’m smoking a 6-by-52 Toro in the Montecristo Epic blend, a richer and stronger smoke from this traditionally mild brand. Montecristo Epic cigars debuted in 2012 and were blended by a team of the longest tenured cigarmakers, called “Grupo de Maestros,” at the Tabacalara de Garcia cigar factory in the Dominican Republic.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews
Montecristo Epic Craft Cured Toro
Developing Palates · Apr 4, 2018 · December 2017
The Montecristo Epic Craft Cured Toro was full of flavors that are straight to the point and focused. I typically am not all that excited to smoke a non-Cuban Montecristo (don't judge by the brand I know) but this one completely changed my perspective. Time to track down more of these.
