My Father La Promesa

Cigar Snob · Jan 7, 2022

My Father Cigars is no stranger to these lofty rankings. Since we’ve started putting out our Top 25 lists there has been a My Father product at or near the top of the list every year. Looking back it has only been ranked outside of the Top 10 once. That was in 2016 when the Don Pepín García Cuban Classic came in at #11. This year’s #4 cigar, the My Father La Promesa, was inspired by Don Pepín’s promise to his family when he left Cuba. He promised that they would triumph in the United States cig

Long and thin with an even burn and open draw. Every puff is dense with notes of baking spices and nougat along with hints of peppercorn and leather before the chewy, molasses finish.

My Father La Promesa in Review "A Lemonhead Spit Out Into Play Sand"

Kaplowitz · Dec 14, 2020

Woodsy | Chocolate | Leather Dusty & refrained nigh muted. Predominantly & up-front woodsy gambit. Balsa & cedar, a thankfully quick to dissipate cardboard. Musky musty therein. Dusty is onboard too, at play in the whispered spice leathery suede softening juxtaposition. Then cocoa. Chocolate. A Swiss Miss packet, replete w/ tiny marshmallows. Complex w/ mottled depths. Underneath is a clean fresh herbaceousness mimicking mint. It seems at rest there under the sweeter aspects of profile and along

My Father La Promesa

Holt's Staff Reviews · Mar 26, 2020

As the master cigarmaker behind the My Father brand and several other acclaimed Nicaraguan labels, José ‘Pepin’ Garcia has achieved much over the last two decades. Known to most simply as “Pepin,” he emigrated from Cuba to the states with his family in the early 2000s. In Cuba, Pepin blended many prominent brands and trained hundreds of cigar-rollers over the course of decades. Upon arriving in Miami, however, Pepin started from ground zero in establishing himself as a cigarmaker in the premium U.S. market.

My Father La Promesa Lancero

Halfwheel · Nov 23, 2019 · July 2019

The My Father La Promesa Lancero is the best new lancero I’ve smoked this year, though, it’s also the only new lancero I can recall smoking this year. That aside, I can tell you that I think it’s a worthy addition to the large family of My Father cigars on the market. Compared to the My Father No. 4, the La Promesa has fewer flavors and is oftentimes just dominated by a single one of those flavors. However, while it may be less complex, in many ways it is the more flavorful of those two cigars. Regardless, it’s one of the better lanceros you will find for the $10 or under price point.

My Father La Promesa Lancero

Blind Man's Puff · Mar 11, 2020 · July 2019

My Father Cigars releases a new regular production cigar at IPCPR almost every year. Last years new cigar was La Promesa. La Promesa translates in Spanish to “The Promise.” The cigar gets its name from what José “Pepín” García told his family when he left Cuba for America. He promised them he would succeed. By all accounts, he has done just that, he went on to start El Rey de los Habanos, My Father, and would make cigars for Ashton, Tatuaje, Miami Cigar & Co., Crowned Heads, and many many others. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend for La Promesa uses an Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan fillers. It comes in five sizes: Petite (4 1/2 x 50) – $7.80, Corona Gorda (5 1/2 x 48) – $8.20, Robusto Grande (5 1/2 x 54) – $8.50, Toro (6 x 52) – $9.20, and Lancero (7 1/2 x 38) – $10. All come in boxes of 20.

My Father La Promesa Toro

Cigar Dojo · Dec 6, 2019

La Promesa is a good cigar, but it isn’t a great cigar. It was very consistent and checks in at a reasonable price point. Honestly, I wanted to like it more than I did, but the lack of any palate-gripping "it factor" gives little reason for purchase in this highly competitive price range. However, there is something to be said for consistency, and La Promesa seems to know its role, performing on cue with pinpoint accuracy.

My Father La Promesa Toro

Developing Palates · Dec 4, 2019 · June 2019

The My Father La Promesa Toro has some interesting complexity in the first third of cream, baking spices, cocoa, cedar and the trademark My Father pepper. That complexity fades moving into the second third and the experience is fairly average for the remainder of the cigar.
