If you would have asked me 10 years ago if I thought Nub cigars were a gimmick, I would have answered “yes” without hesitation. However, here we are 10 years after the debut of Nub and the brand is stronger than ever. In a world that was dominated by Robustos, Toros and Churchills, Oliva took a big gamble that paid off in spades. Who’d a thunk that an entire line of 4-inch cigars with ring gauges around 1-inch in diameter would be such a hit? For those who are unaware, the ring gauge of a cigar is measured in 64ths of an inch.

The Nub Cameroon from Oliva combines the coveted African Cameroon with Nicaraguan binder and filler to create a combination of sweetness, strength, and structure. Nub cigars started as a theory. Born in the Oliva factory, Sam Leccia was determined to show capture the essence – the core – of a cigar’s flavor immediately upon lighting and throughout the duration of the smoke. Rather than wait for a cigar to develop and evolve, which typically occurs an inch to two inches in, the idea behind Oliva ‘s Nub was to specifically blend it to hit its sweet spot right off the bat and remain at its peak right through to the end. Each size is short and stout in stature. That’s by design – not for novelty – as blends and sizes were worked and re-worked a thousand ways from Sunday in order for Nub creator Sam Leccia and the Oliva family to capture the essence of each Nub cigar blend. Anyone can create unusual shapes, each of the Nub blends and accompanying shapes was instead created to show and deliver the blend’s sweet spot. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

The Nub Cameroon 460 is a nice cigar to smoke at any time and they are pretty rugged if you're smoking while doing other things. While I wouldn't identify this as a go to cigar for me, it's one I keep coming back to on occasion and would suggest you try it out if you haven't done so already.
