Oliva Serie V Culebra

Halfwheel · Jan 8, 2013

It was great when I first reviewed it, and it is great still. One of the most complex flavor bombs I have smoked, and easily one of the best cigars Oliva has ever made. The sweet vanilla and nutmeg profile, combined with the perfect amount of white pepper on the retrohale is a joy to taste. Oliva, please, for the love of all that is holy, make more of these.

Oliva Serie V Churchill Extra

Cigar Aficionado · Jan 1, 2023

The Oliva Serie V brand is a cigar that’s consistently smoked above its price range since it was introduced in 2007, and the Churchill Extra here is no exception. As a company, Oliva can be chronicled in three major eras. It started modestly in 1995 producing inexpensive cigars. In the mid 2000s, the family-owned cigar manufacturer became serious about the premium sector, producing brands in its Nicaraguan factory such as the Serie O, and then the Serie V. Then, in 2016, after building a strong following in the cigar world, Oliva sold the company to another family, the Vandermarlieres of Belgium. Any worries about diminished quality have now been forgotten, as Oliva continues to make exceptional cigars under the leadership of Fred Vandermarliere, who vowed to maintain Oliva’s record of excellence. From the beginning, Vandermarliere was clear that he had no interest in changing the company culture of Oliva. Every lively puff here of cinnamon, baked apple, nuts, raisin and minerals reminds us that he’s kept his promise. It’s a great smoke, but it’s more than that. The Oliva Serie V Churchill Extra is also emblematic of how one great cigar family is able to carry on the high standards of another.

At this years PCA Trade show, Oliva Cigars showcased their latest addition to their popular Serie V line. This though, was not just any ordinary extension, it is a celebration of the 135 years Melanio Oliva first grew tobacco in Cuba’s Pinar del Río region launching the Oliva tobacco family. Oliva Serie V 135th Aniversario

Holt's Staff Reviews · Apr 6, 2026

Oliva remains one of the fastest-growing cigar brands of the past two decades, and Serie V is the blend that spearheaded the company’s popularity when it debuted in 2007. The critics at Cigar Aficionado fell in love with the spicy, heavy flavor of Oliva Serie V cigars, and cigar lovers followed suit. Today, I’m smoking a special version of this iconic blend, Oliva Serie V 135th Aniversario, named to commemorate the company’s 135-year heritage in the tobacco world.

Oliva Serie V 135th Anniversary Edicíon Limitada

Cigar Snob · Jan 5, 2023

This uniquely shaped perfecto, released in late 2021, commemorates the Oliva Cigar Family’s entrance into the tobacco growing business. Melanio Oliva, whose name you recognize from the highly acclaimed Oliva Serie V Melanio, began growing tobacco in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba in 1886, pausing only to fight in Cuba’s War of Independence.

Belicoso · NOTE: Chocolate It all begins on the earthen-heavy cold draw. A pip of dark chocolate in the tobacco-stalk addition there. Then, upon lighting and immediately-so, our note marries with baking spices. Then mulling spices. A calm yet assertive spiciness that never does overwhelm either the chocolate or me. Nice. A not quite touching but influencing leather adds some savory depth to the shortly silky note. Now in the second-third, a black walnut attachment to the chocolate serves to tighten it up a tick, to add a bit of a lovely waxy boundary. Our note seems to move away from the spices at that point, or perhaps they simply dial back a bit. It returns more toward its initial spot nearer to the earthiness. Said earthiness has picked up a distinct anise vibe. The profile gets quite rich and evolves deep depths of nuance. As the final-third approaches a roasted orange thing gets added and bee-lines to the chocolate we've been tracking. Leather begins sweating oils into it. The coffee and cedar, present all along, begin to be finally seen from the perspective of our note, but continue to be of no impact upon it. On the far-end, it does, however, pick up a weighty tropical floral tail. And that's is it to the nub. · Tabaclera Oliva, Nicaragua

The Oliva Serie V is a cigar line made its mark among cigar enthusiasts.  It built its popularity started when it was released in 2007, and while there have been many flashier blends to hit the marketplace, the Oliva Serie V still hangs in there.  In 2011, a petit corona vitola was introduced to […]

Oliva Serie V TAA Exclusive

Developing Palates · Mar 12, 2025 · November 2024

The word nostalgia comes to mind when smoking this Oliva Serie V TAA Exclusive. Oliva V has always been a cigar that I enjoyed in multiple sizes. This one is no different. The profile has structure, good range of flavors and consistency that few brands core lines can touch. Good job TAA by going with the tried and true.
