Plasencia Cigars Cosecha 146
Commemorating the Plasencia family's 146th harvest from the 2011–2012 crop, Cosecha 146 is crafted at Tabacos de Oriente in Danlí. Plasencia Cosecha 146 San Agustin
Blind Man's Puff · Jan 24, 2020 · November 2017
The Plasencia Cosecha 146 was introduced at the 2017 IPCPR trade show. The cigar was created to commemorate the Plasencia Family’s first-ever tobacco harvest in 1865 in Cuba. The name comes from the fact that the tobacco leaves come from Plasencia Cigar’s 146th harvest which was the 2011-2012 crop. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The tobacco from Cosecha 146 comes from Honduras and Nicaragua It comes in 20 count boxes in five sizes: La Musica: 5 x 50, La Vega: 5 1/4 x 52, San Luis: 5 3/4 x 54, San Augustin: 6 1/4 x 52, Monte Carlo: 6 x 58. There are future cigars in the Cosecha series in development.

The Plasencia family has been in the tobacco and cigar business for over 150 years dating back to 1865. They only recently, about 4 years ago (2017), started to blend and produce cigars under the Plasencia name. Prior to that, their business model was to grow, harvest, cure, and age tobacco that would be used Read more about Cigar Review: Plasencia Cosecha 146 La Vega – Rated 93[…]

Unlike wine, cigar smokers aren’t often treated to vintage-specific blends. Region or farm specific? Occasionally. But the Plasencias gave us the Cosecha 146, a brand that is purported to contain tobacco only from the 2011-2012 crops. All of the tobaccos in Cosecha 146 are from Criollo ’98 seeds. The wrapper comes from the Jamastran Valley in Honduras, the binder from Estelí, Nicaragua. The fillers are from Nicaragua (Condega) and Honduras (Olancho and Jamastran). By the Plasencias’ calculations, they gave us the best of a banner vintage from two countries. Judging by La Vega’s tasty balance of tea, citrus, earth and caramel, we have no reason to doubt them.

One of the leaders in the art of producing premium cigar blends in an environmentally conscientious fashion, is Plasencia Cigars. A family-operated Honduran staple, that tries to make its tobacco as close to organic as possible. With its "Cosecha 146 La Musica" being one of these premium cigar blends...

Plasencia Cosecha 146 San Agustin is one of the first releases by Plasencia under their Cosecha line. The name of the line recalls the harvest year from which the tobacco leaves come from, exactly the 146th (which dates back to the 2011/2012 vintage). The cigar’s Colorado-colored wrapper is oily and smooth to the […]

This cigar was so unique that it was challenging to pin down flavors. There were sensations (spicy, creamy, zesty, mouthwatering) that made me think of flavors as concepts rather than specific flavor notes. This cigar was a real treat that both reminded me of what made Honduran cigars great, while in a sense, challenged my expectations of what a cigar could taste like. For me, the takeaway wasn’t what this cigar tasted like, but the experience it provided. I can wholeheartedly say that this experience was sublime.

Agile Cigar Reviews are cigar assessments where we use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are re-scoring or giving a score for the first time. It might be a blend we […] Key flavors: Earth, Cocoa, Herb, Pepper, Citrus.

It'll be a disservice to not retrohale the Plasencia Cosecha 146 La Vega as it's the best part of it, giving full notes of dried nuts and black pepper. The strength build up helped the cigar to not be mundane rather attention grabbing. All in all, I would smoke one again but not in a rush to reach for more.
