Plasencia El Año del Caballo

The Plasencia El Año del Caballo is a study in contrasts. While the combination of large size and dark wrapper makes the cigar physically intimidating, its profile is not always like what its appearance suggests. After a bit of a spicy start, it mellows in the second third before picking up again in the final third. In addition, the main flavors—which include oak, anise, cocoa nibs and plain popcorn—are plentiful and engaging, the balance is excellent, and the construction is decent overall. Instead of just putting a band with a horse logo on it and calling it a day, Plasencia has put some actual effort into the overall product—something that I appreciate—and the El Año del Caballo is a wonderful addition to one of the company's best lines.
