I’m smoking Alma del Cielo, the newest cigar from Plasencia, and I’m lighting up a Boreal, a chunky Toro that’s just past 6 inches long with a ring gauge of 54. Alma del Cielo joins a popular portfolio that includes 1865 Alma Fuerte, Alma Fuerte Natural, Alma del Campo, and Alma del Fuego.

At its core, the Alma del Cielo Amanecer is a study in contrasts: on the one hand, it features an amazingly creamy profile that never lets up; on the other hand, that overt creaminess is tempered by bold flavors of roasted peanuts, toasted bread and an ever-present floral note that shows up in various locations as the cigar burns down. Then there is the horseradish note, which I picked up on the cold draw and on the finish of my final cigar, a flavor that I don’t ever remember tasting in a cigar before. In the end, I can’t tell you if the high-altitude tobacco had any notable impact on the profile as a whole, but I can tell you that the Plasencia Alma del Cielo Amanecer is an extremely impressive blend from a company that is no stranger to great cigars.

I really liked the Plasencia Alma del Cielo Boreal. I loved how balanced this cigar was and how filling it was at the same time. It was not too much with strength and body, and the flavors offered an enjoyable experience from start to finish. The burn and draw were great, and I loved the barnyard, wood, spice, cream and earth qualities. It showed the quality of Nicaraguan tobacco, the classic flavors of Nicaraguan tobacco, and the elegance of Nicaraguan tobacco that we are not often gifted.
