The Aging Room brand originally launched with the M356 line at the end of 2011. The brand was known from day one for its very Dominican-dominant blends, but today the majority of its releases come from Nicaragua, including this one. The Aging Room Pura Cepa is manufactured by Plasencia Cigars in Estelí.

The Aging Room Small Batch Pura Cepa Rondo is an outstanding cigar, well-balanced, complex and refined. It might not be a screamer in terms of flavors or strength, but it more than makes up for it with smoothness and restraint, giving the palate enough pepper and flavor to satisfy without overdoing anything and seemingly leaving the palate wanting more with every puff. The technical aspects of the cigar are fantastic, leaving little to argue about with the cigar. It's not only one of the best Aging Room cigars I've smoked, it's one of the best cigars I've smoked this year.

The line of Aging Room Cigars, under the Altadis umbrella of brands, expanded last year with their newest facing, a cigar called Pura Cepa, which translates to Pure Bred. It is a Nicaraguan puro with tobaccos from multiple Nicaraguan growing regions. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Rafael Nodal, Head of Product Capability for Tabacalera USA, created the Pura Cepa to be a unique release that would embody the luxurious qualities on tobaccos from Nicaragua. “I wanted a world-class cigar that ideally displayed the richness Nicaraguan soils can bring to quality tobaccos. With Pura Cepa, I strived to capture the very essence of the land’s core, and deliver a Nicaraguan puro blend for today’s most discerning smokers,” Nodal said. Pura Cepa utilizes tobaccos from Ometepe, Jalapa, Condega and Esteli. To many, these are the most prized tobacco growing regions in the world. The resulting cigar is said to be a ‘bold culmination of Nicaraguan soul and a full-flavored expression which impeccably suits the Aging Room legacy’. Aging Room Pura Cepa is available in three vitolas called the Rondo, Mezzo and Grande. Each vitola comes in 20-count boxes.

This well-made robusto has a lush draw and even burn. Its earthy smoke is sweetened by touches of almonds, cocoa and honeyed wood before a black cherry finish.

The Aging Room Pura Cepa Mezzo is a pretty good offering from the company and an interesting project being a Nicaraguan puro. I think this would be approachable to any level smoker as there are lots of things to like here. I would have no problem revisiting this cigar although the price point is a bit high.
