Aladino Cigars Candela
A nostalgic revival of the classic green candela style that dominated American cigar shops in the mid-20th century, Aladino Candela is rolled at Las Lomas in Jamastran, Honduras. Wrapped in a vibrant green Honduran Candela leaf over authentic estate Corojo fillers, it produces a unique medium-bodied smoke brimming with cedar, fresh earth, citrus zest, sweet hay, and pepper.

Aladino Candela Robusto
Stogie Press · Apr 14, 2023
As I was walking the floor of this year’s Total Product Expo (TPE) I had the pleasure of hanging out at the JRE Tobacco Co. booth where they presented me a sample of their newest limited-edition cigar – the Aladino Candela. I was taken aback a bit because when I think of JRE the word Read more about Cigar Review: Aladino Candela Robusto – Rated 90[…]

For those of you that don’t like the candela cigars you’ve had to date, this could very well be the one that becomes your favorite candela, but I hope you like sweetness. In particular, the first half of the cigar had lots of sweet notes that strongly reminded me of a honey-sweetened green tea beverage. Some of that might be the color association, but the honey sweetness is as strong as I’ve found in any cigar that isn’t flavored. The upside for those of you who haven’t enjoyed candela is that outside of the sweetness, there are not many of the typical candela flavors, especially that dry hay flavor that I often find. A tight draw on the second cigar hurt the score a lot, but this very well might be my favorite candela cigar I’ve smoked.

This JRE Aladino Candela Robusto was an average candela. Price is nice, but it's an average candela. If it had some earthiness with the candela profile, it would have been better. A prettier wrapper would have helped the cigar as well. Nice lemon curd profile in the first two thirds. When it was paired with the cedar, lemongrass and white pepper notes, it was great. Just needed something more.
