Despite many people’s perceptions, Alec Bradley is not the name of a person. This is a combination of Alan Rubin’s, owner and creator of Alec Bradley, son’s first names Alec and Bradley. They were just kids when Alan Rubin started the company, but now work side-by-side with their father. This is the first cigar they have blended completely on their own. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Like many other Alec Bradley cigars, Blind Faith is made in Honduras at the Raices Cubanas. The blend contains a Honduran wrapper from the Trojes region; two binders one Nicaraguan from Jalapa and the other Honduran from Trojes, and Nicaraguan filler from Estelí Criollo ’98 and Corojo ’99. They blended this cigar to be medium-full in strength. It come in 20 count boxes and three vitolas: Robusto 5 x 52 $8.95, Toro 6 x 52 $10, and Gordo 6 x 60 $10.95. The cigar debuted at IPCPR this year.

This solidly rolled, dark-brown robusto leaves leathery, peppery impressions atop a foundation of coffee and earth. Hints of dried black cherries add a fruity sweetness that continues onto the finish.

Chocolate | Red spices | Compost A cautious offering, not without merit. Nice sweet-spice play via milk chocolate-red array (whispered)gambit. Rich earthiness envelopes. Excellent body. Not-great delineation. Creamy-comfy. Sturdy construction/combustion.

Blind Faith is an interesting blend, focusing on Central American tobaccos to deliver loads of spice and a medium body. The cigar veers slightly from the traditional Alec Bradley flavor profile, being a fun/modernized addition to their portfolio. For the first foray into blending, Alec & Bradley delivered a smooth smoke with a level of finesse and that is sometimes difficult to find in today’s market. There were some small problems with construction; a draw on the firm side and some touchups and relights throughout, but these didn’t affect the overall performance significantly.

The profile on the Blind Faith by Alec & Bradley Robusto is more nuanced and subtle than many other offerings from their portfolio. The blend seems focused on sweetness, chocolate and cedar, leaving the spices and pepper to serve as accent notes. The strength was largely medium throughout with the flavors approaching medium-full at times.
