Alec Bradley has delivered with another addition to the Experimental Series. The Double Broadleaf brings intense flavor outside Alec Bradley norms. Using proprietary Honduran Broadleaf throughout the wrapper and binder, the Double Broadleaf pushes limits and adds another wrinkle to the question of just how much Broadleaf tobacco cigar enthusiasts can handle (perhaps you can’t have too much Broadleaf?). Overall, the Double Broadleaf hits hard with salty earth, coffee, porter, malt, and rye bread flavors that are very enjoyable. If I had to rank the Experimental Series, this is number one, followed by Project 40 and then Project 40 Maduro. As with all other Experimental Series releases, this cigar brought happiness—and a pretty intense happiness at that.

The dark cover leaf of this symmetrically-made cigar gleams with oil. Spicy touches of nutmeg and black peppercorn are supported by notes of coffee, salted caramel and leather before a finish hinting of molasses. It draws well but some inconsistency was noted on the burn.

Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Limited Edition Figurado

When it comes to cigar blends, the term “experimental” never fails to pique my interest. Since I had not smoked any of the Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf cigars before, I was looking forward to seeing what the Limited Edition Figurado had to offer. What I found was a profile that is quite rich in nature but fairly one-dimensional, with main flavors that never change from a combination of powdery cocoa nibs and oak. Unfortunately, all three cigars needed at least one correction with my lighter in each third, and the strength of the final third led to issues with the overall balance by the time I finished. In the end, the Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Limited Edition Figurado is a nice addition to the choices available in the CRA Freedom Sampler, but those looking for a milder option should stick with some of the other options.

I’m smoking a recent addition to the Alec Bradley franchise, Double Broadleaf, in a traditional 6-by-52 Toro. This dark and succulent smoke is part of Alec Bradley’s Experimental Series and has gotten some buzz from customers and critics, so I’m excited to check it out. Alec Bradley brand founder Alan Rubin produces a lot of great cigars, and his portfolio keeps growing now that his sons, Alec and Bradley – whom the company is named after – are involved in the family business.

I really enjoyed the Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf Robusto, and I will definitely be smoking it again. I will probably gravitate towards the Toro and Gran Corona vitolas, but that is how I am with Alec Bradley stuff. Very rich and filling. Great winter cigar.
