AVO Syncro South America Ritmo Torpedo Largo

After two years of Nicaragua-focused cigars, it's nice to see AVO looking elsewhere for inspiration. This came in the form of AVO Syncro South America Ritmo, offering a diverse, seven-country blend, showcasing South American tobaccos of Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil. The resulting smokming experience was bright with citrus and other juicy flavors that provided an appreciated change of pace. Ritmo offers a healthy dose of nuanced complexities through the nostrils, making for a rewarding experience for the intermediate to experienced smoker. The cigar had a slightly flakey ash and required to to three touchups, but never a full relight. Altogether, a premium price tag is realistically the only true criticism here, but then again, cigars are often like anything else—you get what you pay for.

(George) Burns straight 'nuff, but doth require a not teeny Bic re-direct nigh half. Then a teenier one at final stanza's on-set. Draw is (Dan) rather open. Pacing is lively, tho not overly hastened. Likes to be puffed, but flirts with being over-smoked. Temperamental. No hard/soft spots, tho the press don't hold and errs toward feeling light in hand. Seams, shoulder, and cap all hold admirably-so. (Alan) thick(e) smoke out-put. Ash tends to flute/flower, but makes an inch a' medium-grey'd growt

Inspired by the worldly spirit and endless curiosity of cigar legend, Avo Uvezian, AVO Cigars first ventured beyond its Dominican roots in 2015; capturing exotic notes from vibrant cultures around the world to create an exciting collection of blends called Syncro. The first with spicy, sweet notes from Isla Ometepe with the AVO Syncro Nicaragua, nextfrom the regions of Nicaragua ‘s Esteli and Condega regions with the wildly exotic AVO Syncro Nicaragua Fogata. AVO now travels further south to uncover a primal rhythm of color and complexity, finding harmony with the unknown to create the new AVO Syncro South America Ritmo Toro. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. Big and box-pressed with an oily wrapper, this blocky cigar smokes well, offering notes of sweet maple, pepper and earth. The finish hints of toffee.

This latest entry into the AVO Syncro line is an enjoyable cigar to smoke, though after three for this review, I found myself struggling to jot down the kind of specific flavors I look for from a cigar. While the cigar is good on the whole, it feels as if there might be a bit too much trying to happen, and as a result, the better parts of the cigar don't get to happen. With tobacco from seven countries being used, I found myself searching for flavors in the resulting stew other than the cigar presenting focused, distinct flavors. The premise of the cigar is interesting, the result a bit less. I'd have no issue smoking this going forward; hopefully future encounters deliver the complexities and combinations that the spec sheet promises.

The AVO Syncro South America Ritmo Toro started with a nice mellow wood and baking spice mix and then increased in the fullness of flavors. Other than the ratios of these flavors, there wasn't much in the way of transitions, but that's OK as the flavor was good. Construction was also very good and didn't require any attention.
