Back in February of this year, Davidoff announced a new line for the AVO brand celebrating the four seasons as a limited edition series. The first one of these was the AVO Seasons Limited Edition Series 2023 Spring. By the end of the year, four different blends will have been released, but as of this article only two have shipped, Spring and Summer. All blends come in the same 6 5/8 x 50 diadema vitola and each will have the same MSRP of $18. Each of the seasons will be limited to 4,000 boxes of 10 cigars. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The AVO Seasons Limited Edition Series 2023 Spring blend uses an Ecuadorian corojo wrapper, with binder and filler from the Dominican Republic. There are Dominican San Vicente seco and hybrid 192 visos in the filler and the company says they contribute to an aroma reminiscent of spring, with one of the fillers having been aged for 14 years.

AVO has created a unique limited-edition cigar line that represents the passing of time, the changing of seasons, and how those aromas and tastes impact us as humans. The AVO Seasons Limited Edition Series 2023 Spring cigar boasts a great design, both in packaging and the cigar itself. AVO Spring is a nice start for the Seasons line of cigars. Although the cigar’s flavors maybe didn't quite hit the spring feeling, it certainly brought a great smoking experience with enjoyable flavors. The rich mineral, savory, and citrus notes with the white pepper spice retrohale were a great combination, reminiscent of a hot toddy cocktail. In the end, Spring kicked off this limited project really well for the AVO Seasons 2023 Series.

A long perfecto rolled with a pale, slightly spotty wrapper. Cedary walnut notes set the tone before hints of orange peel and ginger build to an earthy finish. It draws evenly with a burn that starts askew but corrects itself once it passes the taper.

The AVO Seasons Limited Edition 2023 Fall is a cigar that takes a while to get into a rhythm; in fact, pretty much the entirety of the first third is nothing more than a prologue to what comes next. As the burn line progresses into the second third, the profile makes a noticeable shift in both flavors and complexity, with main notes of mesquite wood and creamy cashews on the palate along with strawberry sweetness on the retrohale. If the first third was as good as the final two thirds, the score on this cigar would be quite a bit higher; but those last two thirds are easily enjoyable enough to make it worth the effort to try for yourself.

The AVO Seasons Spring Limited Edition 2023 had a nice start with a good combination of flavors. From the second third on though, it dropped a level as the baking spice waned and the earth increased. I really enjoyed how things began, but unfortunately, the cigar couldn't maintain that profile and became average the rest of the way. Not a cigar I'd see myself coming back to, but I'm curious to try the other seasons that will follow this one.
