When Davidoff CEO Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard became CEO in 2011, one of the initiatives he put in place was a theme of innovation. This has resulted in Davidoff producing products which might be out of what is considered the company’s comfort zone. One theme that has been making its way through the Davidoff portfolio has been […] Key flavors: Earth, Pepper, Natural Tobacco, Mineral.

Mocha | Spices | Cedar A quite-flat yet still rounded-off press that feels a bit odd in mitt and mouth. Chocolatey earth with a rising coffee bean on the back-end. Until eventually that and all else becomes mere components of top-soil. Leathery bits. Dusty paprika and nutmeg. Black pepper flakes. Cardboard. A slight cedar w/ lemony attachment that doesn't bring structure but instead a buttery spreading of flavors. Good but simple and non-delineated. Flat is a running theme. At times lazily aggre

Davidoff of Geneva USA acuired Camacho in 2008. It was back in 2013 that the company underwent a complete redesign of the Camacho brand. The blends, bands, and boxes were all updated and made to be bolder. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The BXP line extension was added this year to three of it’s core blends – Corojo, Ecuador, and Connecticut. Each blend came in three new vitolas and Pennsylvania broadleaf from AJ Fernandez was added to the filler. The new sizes are: Robusto (5 x 50) — $8, Toro (6 x 50) — $8.25, Gordo (6 x 60) — $9.25. Camacho BXP officially began shipping in the U.S. on Feb. 13 2017.

Halfwheel · Mar 22, 2017 · Feb. 13, 2017[ref]As noted below, this is the formal “national launch” date. These cigars were on shelves earlier to comply with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s regulations.[/ref]
I never thought of the Camacho Corojo line as being one that was in need of some extra pepper or strength, but I have to say the addition of the Pennsylvania ligero to the filler of this cigar did some very good things. It's still a medium-plus cigar with decent but not overpowering body and strength, though ardent fans of mild cigars will almost certainly find it packing too much horsepower for their palates. Each sample smoked beautifully, reaching high points when the sweetness from the ligero gets to balance the pepper, and hopefully the rougher spots will ease themselves with a bit of time. An easily recommendable extension to the Camacho Corojo line that's worth a try.
