Earlier this year, in May, Davidoff and Camacho announced the Camacho Factory Unleashed. This new, affordable blend is a celebration of the Camacho factory. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend is heavy on corjo starting with an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper, Honduran binder, and Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. It features a shaggy foot which exposes the binder and filler and gives the smoker an experience without the wrapper for the first half inch. Camacho Factory Unleashed comes in one size, a 6 x 50 toro. It is packaged in 100-count rustic wooden crates, and only 1,000 of these crates were created. It also comes in paper wrapped bundles of 10 cigars of which 2,500 were made for eCommerce platforms. Each cigar sells for $7.80 MSRP.

A year later, the Camacho Factory Unleashed 3 is an almost totally different cigar: the spice level has been reduced noticeably, and the main flavors have changed dramatically to a profile that now includes a combination of rich charred meat, gritty earth and rich, roasted peanuts. In addition, the original milk chocolate sweetness that was present on the retrohale has been replaced by a much more complimentary raisin flavor, the strength has been toned down from medium-full to medium-plus and there were no construction issues whatsoever. In the end, the year of age has made the Camacho Factory Unleashed 3 a better cigar in almost every way and it is well worth the effort to track down and try for yourself.

Solid to the touch, this golden-hued cigar has a shaggy foot and lopsided cap. Tea-like at first, the smoke takes on a candied-apple note once the flame burns past the exposed shaggy tobacco and reaches the wrapper. Notes of cedar, cream and nuts turn earthy before the dry, woody finish. Some inconsistency was noted on the draw.

Today, we’re taking Camacho “off leash” with our review of the Factory Unleashed 3—the third and (for the time being) final installment of the wildly popular Factory Unleashed line of cigars. A textured and veiny, dark chocolate-colored leaf hides a blend of Honduran and Dominican tobaccos beneath. Dry and relatively light smoke delivers notes of cocoa powder, dusty barnyard, and a unique “old library” profile that varies little throughout the smoking experience. Consistency is the the hallmark of the Factory Unleashed 3, as flavor, body, strength, and burn waver very little from first light to final puff. This is the cigar for you if you are looking for an approachable, straightforward smoke at a great price.

The Camacho Factory Unleashed 3 started well, with a fair amount of transitioning. From the second third on, the flavor profile was average as some components dropped out and the combination wasn't as exciting. This is probably the best of the Factory Unleashed series in my opinion. While it's not something I'd come back to that frequently, the lower price point does make it worthwhile to come back to from time to time.
