The 2019 Camacho Liberty is a re-release of a previous Liberty from 2012. This version is being called the Camacho Liberty 2012 Throwback. The cigar uses the brands 11/18 perfecto shape which measures 6 x 48/54/48. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. This is the second time a Liberty release has been a re-release of another cigar, in 2018 they re-released the 2005 version. Only 2,500 boxes of 20 were made. The blend uses only Honduran corojo leaves from 2008.

Every year, Camacho releases its one-off, limited- edition Liberty Series. They are usually rolled in the company's signature bulbous 11/18 figurado shape and have a different theme with each production run. This year, Camacho is focusing on estate vintage tobacco. The 2012 blend consists of four primings of Honduran Corojo, all culled from an exemplary 2008 crop grown on the same lot in Jamastran. The unique shape of this cigar undoubtedly contributes to the experience. It's crafted with a 48 ring gauge at either end but swells to a plump 54 in the middle where the cigar reaches an apex of flavor. The different primings of tobacco make for very interesting smoking, with flavors that range from almonds and cedar to peppercorns and floral notes. Each Liberty comes individually coffined in its own slide-lid box, all of which are packaged in handsome chests of 20.

Camacho Liberty Series 2012

Even with the varied flavors that came off the Camacho Liberty Series 2012, it was an incredibly enjoyable cigar and one that had my attention the whole way through. While there was a bit of harshness from the charred wood notes in the final third, I have a feeling that will subside with some time—or at least that's my hope as I plan on picking up a few more of these to stash away. While I won't go so far as to compare these to other editions of the Camacho Liberty Series, I will say that this seems like a fine showing and one worthy of picking up. Collector or not, at least one of these belongs in your humidor.

Camacho Liberty 2015

Camacho has done it yet again. I’m not sure how long they can keep up this annual release, but after 14 different cigars, they're still fun! This Nicaraguan puro well deserves its patriotic band and its spot on the Liberty shelf—though it's definitely not the best in this historic series. Although the price tag is a little high, the Liberty 2015 sure does have the presentation to back it up. But, was the fancy blue really worth the extra green?
