La Aurora 1985 Maduro | Cigar Review by Kaplowitz
Kaplowitz · Jun 10, 2019
Cadbury Fruit & Nut Bar but replace almonds with cashews & their "Delicious dried grapes" w/ "raisins." Heavy on the upper compost undertones. Milk becomes dark chocolate fudge via heated progression or "smoking." Shot of espresso, too. Not complex per se but deeply nuanced in a kindly straight-forward manner. A typical Maduro, done nigh supremely well. Draw is smooth & even & cool of temp w/ maybe the slightest of occasional hesitance. Burns on an even-line with one or two self-correcting hiccu

Blind Man's Puff · Mar 4, 2020 · April 2019
Back in April of 2019, Miami Cigar & Company announced the La Aurora 1985 Maduro. This new release is part of their Time Capsule line, which includes the 1987 Connecticut, 1903 Cameroon, and 1962 Corojo. The 1985 is described as a full-bodied every day cigar. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend uses a Brazilian Maduro wrapper with Dominican and Nicaraguan binders and fillers. It comes in 4 sizes: Robusto, Toro, Churchill, and Gran Toro and prices range from $5.75 to $6.50. It comes in boxes of 20 and is regular production.

Draped in a near-black cover leaf, this long cigar has a sweet and earthy character that combines notes of cocoa powder and wood with hints of brown sugar that build to a licorice finish. The burn is clean and even.

If there is one thing I am a sucker for, it is a cigar with a good background story and the La Aurora 1985 Maduro fits that bill nicely. Having said that, the profile of the blend is fairly standard, with earth, oak and dark chocolate easily taking the top spots for pretty much the entire cigar. There was a moment of complexity to be had—specifically the fondant sweetness on the finish in the first third—but unfortunately, it waned noticeably after that, leading to a significantly less nuanced profile for the final two thirds. In the end, the La Aurora 1985 Maduro was an enjoyable cigar that falls far short of amazing but fits the bill nicely as a blend featuring an enjoyable profile that is priced extremely well.

The La Aurora 1985 Maduro Robusto was a great cigar that delivered on so many levels. There is a lot to be impressed with in this cigar, and another great quality is how well it shows that La Aurora knows how to work with so many different types of tobacco in so many blends.
