La Flor Dominicana La Nox

Halfwheel · Oct 20, 2015

This is my favorite cigar I’ve smoked from La Flor Dominicana, a cigar where the complexity and nuance isn’t intimated by the richness. Due to their higher price, Brazilian wrappers haven’t been seen on as many new releases as they once were, but it’s nice to see a cigar that uses the aggressive sweetness to its potential. It’s one thing to get the packaging and brand concept correct, but it falls short if the cigar doesn’t perform; in the case of La Nox, it’s a winner in every which way.

La Flor Dominicana La Nox Toro

Blind Man's Puff · Apr 17, 2024 · September 2015

La Flor Dominicana has carved a distinctive niche in the cigar market with its La Nox line, debuted by Tony Gomez, son of the company’s founder, Litto Gomez. First presented at the 2015 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, La Nox, which translates from Latin to “the night,” was immediately noted for its innovative packaging and complex blend. The initial offering was a 6 1/2 x 50 Toro, utilizing a Brazilian maduro wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés binder, and fillers from La Flor Dominicana ‘s La Canela farm in the Dominican Republic. This blend promised a rich, layered smoking experience, marked by a dark profile and robust flavors. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The packaging of La Nox set it apart, featuring a striking round, black box that utilized magnets rather than traditional hinges. This creative choice underscored the brand’s emphasis on aesthetic distinctiveness and functional innovation. The cigar itself was positioned as a regular production item, available in boxes of ten, which helped establish it as a staple among enthusiasts seeking depth and character in their smoke. While subsequent releases like the Petite La Nox have catered to those preferring a shorter duration smoke, the original Toro size remains a benchmark for quality in the La Nox line. Its consistent blend of Brazilian, Mexican, and Dominican tobaccos delivers a smoking experience that balances strength with intricate flavor notes, making it a preferred choice for those who appreciate its craft and the narrative behind its midnight-inspired theme.

La Flor Dominicana La Nox

Holt's Staff Reviews · Dec 22, 2023

I’m smoking a dark and succulent cigar from La Flor Dominicana, called La Nox, which is Latin for “The Night,” and I’m reviewing the 6.5-by-50 Toro. La Flor Dominicana brand founder Litto Gomez produces a distinguished collection of small-batch cigars at his factory in the Dominican Republic. He got into the business in the midst of the Cigar Boom of the 1990s and has steadily created a popular portfolio of boutique cigars that have scored high marks from the critics, including a ‘#1 Cigar of the Year’ title in Cigar Aficionado, in 2016, for the Andalusian Bull.

Cigar Aficionado · Aug 1, 2023

Dark and oily, this well-made cigar has a woody, sweet quality accented by impressions of candied walnut, cedar, a touch of clove and some anise. The finish calls to mind an aperitif. It draws and burns evenly throughout.

Cigar Coop · Dec 24, 2015

The IPCPR Trade Show is usually the time La Flor Dominicana showcases the lion’s share of its new annual releases. 2015 was no exception, and this year La Flor Dominicana’s center piece was all-new line called La Nox. The name “La Nox” is Latin for “The Night” – and this is the theme of this […]

Cigar Dojo · Nov 25, 2015

Great construction leads the way with this limited edition smoke. Despite its unique presentation (circular box), the cigar's appearance is lacking. There are fun flavors throughout that most will enjoy; though it tends to heat up quickly, making for harsh and unwanted notes at times.

Developing Palates · Jun 8, 2016 · September 2015

I would recommend this to a more seasoned smoker to pick up the nuances that it provides, but for those smokers, they are in for a treat. Definitely something as an evening or final cigar in a smoking session, but quite enjoyable and one I could see myself gravitating towards quite often.
