Partagas Anejo Petit Robusto

Kaplowitz · Mar 29, 2022

Caramel | Cedar | White peppercorn Plush and less sedately-so than I'd have suspected. Backed and braced by cracked white peppercorn and buttery cedar, respectively. Nearly the rest is a by-product of a bulging sweet earthen core. Earth is a sunlit hiking trail of a foggy morning. A bit vegetal. Sweet comes via salted caramel, nougat, and cocoa butter. Those extend out from said core in root-like fashions. Some reach all the way to an encompassing meaty pale leather. Spices play complexly in the

Partagas Añejo Petit Robusto

Blind Man's Puff · Jul 6, 2022 · March 2022

This February, General Cigar announced a new Partagas, Partagas Añejo. The word añejo refers to the age of the main wrapper leaf on the cigar. The cigar is a barber pole and uses a rare 1998 Cameroon wrapper as well as a 2013 Connecticut Shade wrapper to spiral down the length. The rest of the blend uses a Dominican binder and Mexican and Dominican fillers. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. General Cigar says that the Añejo will be a “seasonal offering” so we can expect more similar blends using this Cameroon in the future. Partagas Añejo comes in 25-count wooden boxes and in two vitolas rolled at General Cigar Dominicana. Both are 4.5” length because of the limited size of the Cameroon wrapper leaves. The two are a Petit Robusto 4.5” x 49 that costs $6.99 and an Esplendido 4.5” x 60 that costs $7.49.

Partagas Añejo Petit Robusto (2022, First Batch)

Cigar Coop · Oct 22, 2022

In early 2022, Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG)’s Partagas brand launched a new small batch series known as the Partagas Añejo. Añejo brands typically refer to extra-aged tobaccos, and in the case of the Partagas Añejo, the cigar features two aged wrappers intermixed in a barber-pole format. The barber-pole format is something that has not been […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Cedar, Fruit, Earth, Pepper, Cream.

Partagas Añejo Petit Robusto

Halfwheel · May 3, 2022 · March 1, 2022

Appearance-wise, it's pretty easy to tell that there's Cameroon tobacco used. Flavor-wise, I don't think I ever would have guessed that's the main wrapper as it certainly doesn't show off the complexity I oftentimes taste with good Cameroon wrapper. To me, the Partagas Añejo Petit Robusto tastes like a lot of the profiles of cigars from a dozen or so years ago, a linear medium-full profile with classic cigar flavors dressed up slightly. I don't think it's a terrible cigar but it's a style of cigar that I don't think is very competitive in the modern market of medium-full cigars. That, combined with the at times somewhat harsh profile creates an okay cigar for $7, but not one that could compete if not for the lower price point.

Partagas Anejo

CigarCzars · May 24, 2022

Partagas Anejo is a seasonal barber pole cigar that began shipping to retailers during March 2022. These cigars are made in Dominican Republic with both 1998 Cameroon and 2013 Connecticut Shade wrapper leaves, a Dominican binder, and a blend of Dominican and Mexican filler tobaccos. The cigars are available in only two sizes, a Petit Robusto (4.5 x 49) and an Esplendido (4.5 x 60), which sell for $6.99 and $7.49, respectively. For more information, please see thepress release. Both Partagas Anejo vitolas are a relatively short 4½ inches in length due to the size of the Cameroon wrapper leaves. By looking at the picture of one of the sample Petit Robustos, it is obvious that the large band on the cigar would eventually have to be removed in order to continue smoking beyond the first 1½ inches. When doing so, be careful not to damage the wrappers. The sample Partagas Anejo Petit Robusto cigars began with a mild-to-medium body and flavor, which had a hint of spice. After a the first few puffs, I noticed a nutty flavor which was eventually joined by a creamy taste as the spice began to fade. After 15 to 20 minutes into the smoke, a leather flavor also emerged. The combination of these flavors was very enjoyable until the end, and worthy of a very good 4-point rating (for flavor only) out of a possible five points. It took me 35-40 minutes to smoke the Petit Robusto cigars down to about 1½ inches remaining. During that time, the cigars needed 3 or 4 touch-ups and a couple of relights (which may have affected the flavor). Some barber pole cigars do not burn very evenly, and may require a little effort to keep them going. However, with cigars this short, the amount of effort that was required detracted from the overall (and short) smoking experience. In addition, although the draw was good, the cigars did not hold a very long ash due to all the burn issues. Therefore, a reduction in my overall rating to a net of 3.75 points on a 5-point scale was made because of the issues noted. UPDATE:After smoking one more Partagas Anejo Petit Robusto about a week after this review, I was surprised to find that the cigar burned perfectly, without needing any touch-ups nor relights. The flavor also exhibited hints of a natural tobacco sweetness during the second half, and the cigar's true flavors were not hampered by any burn issues. Being handmade products, it is not unusual for cigars in the same batch or box to smoke a bit differently, with some brands being more consistent than others. Anyway, a superior rating of 4.25 points was warranted for this one last sample.
