Southern Draw Decennium

Stogie Press · Oct 31, 2024

Back in August, Southern Draw Cigars released the DECENNIUM, Latin for a ten-year period and their first milestone cigar release since the extremely popular LUSTRUM in 2019. Described as an amazing new blend featuring a carefully selected and well-aged dark Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper (known as “Green Gold” in the municipality that produces this wrapper). The DECENNIUM is a Read more about Cigar Review: Southern Draw Decennium – Rated 96[…]

Southern Draw Decennium Lonsdale

Cigar Aficionado · Nov 19, 2024 · Cigar Insider

Covered in a dark, coarse wrapper, this thin cigar is not as strong as it looks. It’s woody and earthy, showing sweeter elements of vanilla bean, nougat and orange with an oaky finish. The draw and burn stay even throughout.

Southern Draw Decennium

Halfwheel · Dec 4, 2024 · Aug. 28, 2024

I have no doubt that at its core, the Southern Draw Decennium is a solid blend, something I consistently picked up in the first half of all three cigars. The flavor is bright and lively yet refined right out of the gate, putting on an impressive show without crossing any lines in terms of intensity or harshness. But somewhere in the second half, something changes that elicited an unpleasant physical reaction from me, expressing itself as both irritation at the top of the throat to a feeling of upper chest tightness. One cigar managed to keep those feelings subdued enough to let the flavor shine and carry through the distraction, but the other two simply couldn't. It didn't seem to be a construction issue as all three cigars performed very well, a testament to the rollers at El Titan de Bronze. That leaves me to wonder if it wasn't something to do with the leaves themselves, possibly not getting enough fermentation to rid them of whatever would lead to such an experience. I hate saying that this was a good cigar spoiled by a bad experience, but that feels like the most fitting thing I can say about it.

Southern Draw Decennium

Developing Palates · Jan 2, 2025 · August 2024

The Southern Draw Decennium started out with some interesting and medium-full bodied flavor combinations through the first third. As the cigar progressed, the flavor profile remained pleasant and consistently over the medium mark, but it wasn't as engaging for me as the start. It's difficult to determine whether the draw performance impacted the overall flavor performance, but I think I'd want to revisit the cigar to see if a Decennium with a good draw imparted more complex flavors for the final two thirds.
