Southern Draw Cigars Manzanita

Stogie Press · Jan 17, 2021

Kicking off 2021, Southern Draw Cigars announced a cigar that has been years in the making – the MANZANITA. The process of creating this blend started way back in the early days of Southern Draw Cigars when Robert and Sharon Holt were meeting with AJ Fernandez and his team at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez. Southern Draw Manzanita Toro

Blind Man's Puff · Mar 26, 2021 · December 2020

Southern Draw announced a new cigar back in December of 2020, Manzanita, which translates to “little apple.” The name come about years back while Robert Holt was inspecting bales of Habano hybrid. He commented on the deep red oily leaves, simiar to the shimmering “red” bark of a manzanita tree. This tobacco would later become the wrapper of Manzanita. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend for Manzanita uses that Habano hybrid wrapper, Pelo d’Oro, Corojo 99, Habano, and ligero. That is all the blend info given so as not taint anyone’s opinions about the blend prior to trying it. For Now, Manzanita is offered in one size, a 6×52 toro parejo. Later this year, additional sizes will be made available including robusto, toro and gordo. It comes in 10-count boxes that cost $149.99 and is regular production. Annual production for 2021 is 180,000 cigars, 60,000 per size. Like all other Southern Draw Cigars, it is rolled at AJ Fernandez Cigar Co.

Southern Draw Manzanita Robusto

Cigar Aficionado · Jul 13, 2021 · Cigar Insider

Made with a round head, there are some fine white veins to the wrapper of this chocolate-brown toro. At first, initial notes of black pepper and perfume clash a bit, but sweeter tones of almond and caramel bring the elements together more cohesively.

Southern Draw Manzanita Toro

Halfwheel · Feb 17, 2021 · Dec. 19, 2020

I admit I am a sucker for a cigar with an interesting origin story or background and the Southern Draw Manzanita certainly qualifies in that regard. Thankfully, there is more to this cigar than just the story: the blend is both rich and complex, with a wonderful combination of both dark chocolate and creamy cedar, along with a wonderful raisin sweetness on the retrohale. Even though the flavors in the profile have a noticeable drop off in both distinctness and complexity in the final third—leading to an ending that is less than ideal—the first two thirds of the Manzanita are easily enjoyable enough to recommend trying the blend if you can find it.

Southern Draw Manzanita Toro

Cigar Dojo · Jun 15, 2021

This was an interesting cigar for sure. I had no expectations going into it other than an overall positive vibe, as Southern Draw Cigars typically do not disappoint. The flavor notes right off the light were very pleasant, and while leaning towards complex, were very well balanced. The overall change in profile at the end was a little unexpected, but not unpleasant. I felt the cigar was very well mannered in the strength department, and never ventured out of the medium range, making me feel confident that seasoned as well as newer smokers can enjoy what this cigar has to offer.

Late in 2020, Southern Draw Cigars launched a new regular production line known as Manzanita. The name Manzanita means “little apple.”  Southern Draw Cigars is known to name its cigars for flowers and plants. Not only do apples grow on trees, but Manzanita also refers shrubs and small trees that often have a reddish bark. […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Citrus, Earth, Pepper.

Southern Draw Manzanita Toro

Developing Palates · Mar 31, 2021 · December 2020

The Southern Draw Manzanita Toro started out promising in the first third with a dessert like flavor experience. The profile changed significantly moving into the second and last thirds, losing my attention through the review. I find almost everything from Southern Draw to be enjoyable for my palate, so I think I will return to the Manzanita in a few months to see if it evolves over time.
