Blind Man's Puff · Dec 21, 2022 · August 2022
Pete Johnson and Tatuaje Cigars announced a new line extension for the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show: Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú Blue. This entirely new blend is an offshoot of the original Tatuaje Havana VI line that has been around since the mid-2000’s. It has a new secondary blue and white band below the standard red Havana VI band. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The original Havana VI was one of Tatauje’s first lines; it used an Ecuadorian wrapper, Nicaraguan double binder and Nicaraguan filler. It was the first Tatuaje made in Nicaragua, not Miami. In 2007 Tatuaje released the Havana VI Verocú, two regional line extensions of the Havana VI line. Shortly after, it became a regular production cigar for the company with some new sizes being added. Finally, in 2022, Pete Johnson created the “Blue” extension of the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú. The new line was originally going to use an Ecuadorian Habano claro wrapper, but the final blend now uses a Nicaraguan corojo 99 rosado wrapper. The blend is said to have take 4 years to perfect. The wrapper used on the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú Blue is the same as the wrapper used on the Tatuaje Escasos Collection. Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú Blue comes in two sizes: No.1 (6 1/4 x 52) $12.00 and No.2 (5 1/2 x 54) $12.00. Johnson left the possibility open to adding new sizes in the future that would be similar to the rest of the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú line. Both sizes come in boxes of 20 ($240) or 50 ($600).

Not long ago I wrote a review of the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocu Blue, which came out in 2022, but today I’m revisiting the original Tatuaje Havana VI Verocu blend, and I’m smoking it in a 6.25-by-52 Toro called the No. 1. Tatuaje brand founder Pete Johnson released the first Havana VI Verocu cigars in 2007 as a limited-edition version of his popular Brown Label Cojonu line. The blend was a hit with loyal Tatuaje fans, prompting Pete to make it a regular production cigar. Now you can enjoy it in a series of traditional sizes, including the No. 1 I’m lighting up today.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

Tatuaje Verocu No. 1 Lado Occidental

It was interesting going back to one of Pete’s early limited editions that I had not gotten to try before. As previously stated, I might not have gotten to smoke these fresh, but given what I know about the Verocu profile and the Tatuaje profile, the age has done this stick wonders. This cigar has a long finish and coats your mouth with the sweeter flavors up front and finishing off with a mild peppery bite. The flavor bouquet wasn’t overwhelmingly complex and the different flavors ended up playing very nicely off each other. As I guessed before I smoked the cigar, the age has mellowed out the peppery bite many Tatuaje sticks have. It was actually nice not having the pepper clog up my palate however, which allowed the other flavors to shine. Despite its age, The Verocu No. 1 still packs quite a punch. I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar and will definitely be on the look out for any rereleases of this stick in the future.

At the 2022 Premium Cigar Association Trade Show, Tatuaje Cigars showcased a new regular production line, the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú Blue. While Tatuaje Cigars is well-known for some very high-profile limited edition releases, the company has a strong portfolio of regular production core offerings. Personally, I became quite excited when the Tatuaje Havana VI […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Earth, Cedar, Fruit, Pepper.

An excellently made toro with an attractive tan cover leaf. The smoke has a spicy quality with an underlying chocolate sweetness, wisps of leather and some earth before a long, sweet finish. The draw is open, the burn dead-even.

Pete Johnson may have made the right decision when he brought back the Verocu line (from a monetary perspective, at least), though the cigar might have done well from a bit more tweaking in the laboratory. It doesn't seem to offer very much, but then again, what was offered in the first place that deserved a reboot? On the surface, it looks like a fantastically rolled and handmade cigar, even with a not-so-appealing band. But once lit, the Verocu falls short of today’s demand in flavor, and the quality we thought we knew from Pete Johnson.

Developing Palates · Dec 26, 2022 · August 2022
The Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú Blue No. 1 was enjoyable and at times reminded me of baked goods for Christmas time which definitely held my interest. The last third was a stark departure from the rest of the cigar with darker, toasted earth flavors that didn't harmonize with what was being delivered prior to that. I would smoke the Tatuaje Havana VI Verocú Blue No. 1 again, the flavor profile is balanced and right in my wheelhouse.
