The Aladino Classic, produced by the father and son team of Julio and Justo Eiroa from their vertically integrated operation in Honduras, shows that they can grow more than just excellent corojo. This blend features a beautiful habano wrapper over corojo and habano fillers for a beautifully balanced and nuanced smoking experience.

JRE Tobacco Co.’s announced a new addition to the Aladino brand this past April, Aladino Classic. This versions is a Honduran puro made with 100% tobacco grown by the company. The Classic joins the original Corojo, Corojo Reserva, Maduro, Connecticut, Cameroon, and Habano Vintage in the Aladino line. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend uses a Honduran Habano wrapper, Honduran Corojo binder, and Honduran Habano and Honduran Corojo fillers. It is rolled at JRE’s Fabrica de Puros Aladino S.A. in Honduras. Aladino Classic comes in four sizes: Corona Classic 5 x 44 $7.00, Robusto 5 x 50 $9.00, Toro 6 x 50 $10.00, and Gordo 6 1/2 x 60 $11.00. Like some other new JRE releases, it had a soft-launch in May before getting a full release after the PCA tradeshow in July.

A slim panetela with a triple-seam cap and veiny cover leaf. The smoke is chewy with roasted chestnut and hazelnut notes that meld with touches of caramel and chocolate but there is some grit on the tangy, woody finish. While it burns evenly, the draw is somewhat firm.

Along with CLE’s Eiroa brand—made by Julio's son, Christian, who runs his own company—Aladino has been a huge influence in changing my mind about just how good Honduran tobacco can be. While the Classic Robusto is not as complex or rich as the Aladino Cameroon blend—or the Eiroa The First 20 Years , for that matter—it is no slouch in the flavor department, with an assortment that includes creamy cashews, dried tea leaves, cocoa nibs and molasses sweetness, as well as some mint and grilled asparagus, albeit in two different cigars. In addition, there were very few construction issues overall and the solidly medium strength is well-balanced with the rest of the profile. The Aladino Classic Robusto was not only an easy blend to enjoy but is also an easy blend to recommend, especially if you are already a fan of what the company has released in the past.

Aladino Classic Toro

The Aladino Classic is the latest release from JRE Tobacco Company, making its debut at the 2022 PCA trade show in Las Vegas. The cigar is a Honduran puro that features a plentiful amount of the Authentic Corojo leaf that JRE has built their brand on. The smoking experience starts out with some nice flavors, but an excessively fast burn quickly flattens the flavor profiles out into an overall earthy, medium-bodied smoke that provides little complexity throughout, leaving you with a “meh” feeling upon completion.

The JRE Aladino Classic Corona offered balanced and interesting flavors that at times were up to medium-full strength but remained balanced through the majority of the cigar review. I would definitely smoke the JRE Aladino Classic Corona, especially when you factor in the approachable price point.
