JRE Tobacco added two new sizes to the Aladino Vintage Selection sizes this year. They officially launched at the PCA trade show this July, but before that had a soft launch for a few shops back in May. The two new sizes are the Elegante (Lancero 7 x 38) and Toro (6 x 50). Today we will be reviewing the JRE Aladino Habano Vintage Selection Elegante. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The very first Aladino Vintage Selection released in 2020 and in just one size, a 4 1/2 x 48 Rothschild. The Aladino Habano Vintage uses only JRE ‘s authentic corojo tobacco, a trademark of Aladino cigars. The blend is comprised of tobacco all grown at the company’s Finca Corojo farms outside Danlí, Honduras. This includes a habano wrapper, and corojo binder and corojo filler. We reviewed the original Rothschild here. With the new Elegante (lancero) size, the company says it will have a bit more strength and body that the original. The thinner ring gauge really allows the wrapper to shine. Both the new toro and lancero ‘s sell for $8.00. When the original Rothschild came out, those sticks had been aged for 5 years after being rolled, these new sizes do not have that same age.

Aladino is one of the under the radar brands on the market today, and the Habano Vintage Selection Rothschild easily continues that tradition. The profile is complex, balanced and full of flavor, with the added bonus of the construction, which was excellent out of the gate. While I am absolutely looking forward to trying the new vitola or vitolas of this blend when they are released, for $6 you will have a hard time finding a better tasting and better-balanced cigar right now.

Light brown with some stitchy veins, this toro burns evenly and draws well, delivering impressions of gingerbread and cedar with notes of white pepper, cumin and a trace of citrus before the herbal finish.

It's aged, it's affordable, it's chock-full with Eiroa Corojo tobacco—it ain't hard to see why this little smoke became a fan favorite throughout 2020. With the wrapper swap to a Habano leaf, Aladino Habano Vintage Selection offers a familiar profile to its Corojo-wrapped Aladino sibling, trading pretzel dough and sourdough flavor components for zesty cabinet spices, red pepper, and cinnamon candy. Five years' age didn't necessarily translate to supreme complexity in this smoke, instead allowing the longer melding of tobaccos to provide balance, consistency, and a lack of undesirable flavor components (for the majority of the experience) that greener smokes can exhibit.

Agile Cigar Reviews are cigar assessments where we use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are rescoring or giving a score for the first time. It also might be a blend […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Cocoa, Orange Rind, Earth, Red Pepper, Bakers Spice.

It is incredible what a different vitola can do for a cigar. Well, it is incredible what a ring gauge can do for a cigar. This is a blend that excels with a smaller ring gauge and stronger wrapper presence. The JRE Aladino Habano Vintage Selection Elegante was balanced throughout, but it had depth and complexity. Great burn and draw as well.
