Macanudo 1968 Robusto

Back in 2008, Macanudo decided to commemorate their 40th anniversary and released a special cigar for the occasion: the Macanudo 1968. Traditionally a milder brand, at the time, this cigar strayed from that profile and created a stronger blend to appeal to a different audience and give their existing fans something different. When it was released, the cigar cost ranged from $8.50 to $11.00, then in 2011 they actually lowered the price to between $6.49 and $7.99. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The year 1968 celebrated the year Ramon Cifuentes began development on the Macanudo brand, which finally came to the U.S. in 1971. This cigar pays homage Macanudo ‘s place in modern cigar history and offers a different smoking experience from the typical Macanudo. All tobaccos in the blend are all proprietary to General Cigar. The blend uses tobacco from three countries, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The wrapper is a Honduran Olancho San Agustin (OSA), with a Connecticut Habano binder, and filler from Dominican Republic, Esteli, Nicaragua and Ometepe, Nicaragua. It comes in five vitolas: Churchill: 7 x 49, Gigante: 6 x 60, Toro: 6 x 54, Robusto: 5 x 50, and Trompeta: 5 x 60.

A girthy cigar with a dark wrapper, even burn and even draw, despite its thickness. The smoke is rich and cedary with a touch of caramel on the finish. Medium bodied and balanced.
