Rolled nicely with tight seams and even draw giving satiating/saturating helpings a' smoky-smoke. Some slight softening a' pack, sans hard/soft spots, per se. Veins are minimal, tooth scant. Burns on a half-tick wobble of a fully sheen'd top-leaf, mandating no re-direct. Ash makes an inch growth in a loose stack a' heather-grey dimes. Pace begins moderately-set, then slows via progression, but ne'er becoming tedious. Black pepper Chili seasoning Chocolate, semi-sweet & dark Cedar, sweetly Worces

Macanudo’s iconic consistency remains true as each Inspirado Black I have smoked was very consistent from burn to flavor. Complexity is overrated with a lot of smokers. You don’t have to take a ride on a “flavor coaster” with every cigar , in my opinion. The draw and the burn are above standard and the unique floral notes are enough to capture one’s attention. Finally, with the exception of classic Macanudo lines, I do enjoy age experimentation with this brand and I am intrigued to see what some time in the humidor will do to this cigar. Note: cigars used for review had one year of age at the time of review.

Today I’m smoking a Robusto from one of the most recognizable brands in the world – Macanudo – in the Inspirado Black blend, which was released exclusively for the European market in 2014, but has been distributed in the U.S. since 2016. Macanudo’s parent company, General Cigar Company, has invested much in recent years expanding the Inspirado portfolio, which includes three other lines: Orange, Red, and White.

I don't smoke a lot of Macanudos, so I have a hard time telling you just how different the Inspirado Black is from the core line. It tries to be fuller bodied, succeeds with pepper but little else, save for some broadleaf sweetness that makes way too few appearances. This is an approachable cigar in that unless you are highly pepper-averse it won't offer much in the way of bold flavors, though for someone looking for a profile to dive into, this has the depth of a backyard kiddie pool. The tight draw didn't help anything, though fortunately it was the only technical aspect I can fault; the cigar burns well and produces plenty of smoke. I would have loved for this profile to break through the Macanudo stereotype, much like I thought the Macanudo 1968 did when it came out several years ago, but other than offering a bit more fullness and pepper, it doesn't do much to stand out.

The flavor profile was direct and in a way, as expected of a good tasting broadleaf cigar. In my opinion, General Cigar's shift in bolder marketing and cigar flavor profile of Macanudo is a win, as this will most likely gain popularity of most American smokers who enjoys fuller body and flavors.
