In March of 2023, General Cigar announced a new Macanudo cigar in their Inspirado line: Macanudo Inspirado Tercio Aged. The name comes from the technique of tercio aging. This method of aging is strenuous and time-consuming and involves covering the cigar’s Dominican Piloto Cubano leaves in handmade bales made of royal palm bark that age the tobacco in a unique climaite for six months. This method is said to smooth out the tobacco in a way that is not achievable through other techniques, delivering deep nuances and heightened aroma. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend for Macanudo Inspirado Tercio Aged uses a Mexican San Andres wrapper, Indonesian binder and Colombian and Dominican fillers. It is produced at at General Cigar Dominicana in Santiago, Dominican Republic. This cigar comes in two sizes, with 3,400 boxes being released in the U.S: Toro (6” x 54) $10.49 MSRP and Churchill (7” x 49) $10.99 MSRP. Each box has a QR code that links to a video that displays the tercio-aging process.

Macanudo Inspirado Terico Aged is a limited-edition cigar made in the Dominican Republic. The blend features Dominican filler that has been aged six months using a special tercio process, which is then combined with Colombian filler tobacco. The wrapper is Mexican San Andreas and the binder is Indonesian. These cigars were released in April 2023, and are available in two sizes. The Toro (6 x 54) is priced at $10.49 per cigar, and the Churchill (7 x 49) is $10.99. If you don't have a smart phone, the QR Code leads tothis special webpageon the manufacturer's website. The sample Macanudo Inspirado Tercio-Aged Toro started off with a peppery flavor. After about five minutes, an earthy flavor also kicked in, but the pepper was still predominant. During the next 5-10 minutes, the pepper gradually tamed down a bit and the flavor became more balanced between the pepper and earth, and the smoke noticeably began to smooth out. The body was medium-plus, not quite reaching the medium-to-full range. Thereafter, the flavors remained very enjoyable until the very end. It took me 65 minutes to smoke the Macanudo Inspirado Tercio-Aged Toro down to two inches remaining. During that time, the cigar had a great draw, even burn, and held a long ash. There were no bothersome issues (relights, touch-ups, etc.) to deal with during the smoking session, which made for a most enjoyable and relaxing experience. I found the Macanudo Inspirado Tercio-Aged Toro to be a superior smoke worthy of a superior rating of 4.25 points on a 5-point scale. The cigar's excellent construction added to the enjoyment of its well-balanced flavors. For any cigar, it's always great when there are not any annoying anatomical problems that can detract from the overall smoking experience.

The Macanudo Inspirado Tercio Aged Toro was overall pleasant, with reasonably balanced flavor combinations, but I didn't find there was enough dynamic combinations or anything that would elevate it above other offerings in the Macanudo line. This likely isn't something I'd return to, I'd see myself gravitating towards the Macanudo Inspirado White which has always been a consistent performer for me.
