M by Macanudo Dark Rum Toro
Halfwheel · Nov 13, 2022 · August 2022
As far as flavored cigars go, the first half of the M by Macanudo Dark Rum Toro is pretty impressive. The rum flavoring is on par with some familiar rums that I would call better than average. It is thick and unmistakable, and as I would come to find out in the second half, does a good job covering up the underlying blend and its flaws. The second half, however, is a pretty radical departure from the first half, and one that falls well short of the mark of any premium cigar. Beyond the flavor, the sponginess of the cigar’s construction leaves a lot to be desired from a tactile perspective, but doesn’t seem to interfere with the cigar’s draw or other technical aspects. While I can’t see myself returning to this cigar, for fans of flavored cigars looking for a rum-flavored smoke that performs pretty well for half of its length, the M by Macanudo Dark Rum Toro is certainly worth a look, though just be prepared for a turn that can quickly derail the experience.

CigarCzars · Jun 9, 2026
M by Macanudo Myers's Rum is a rum flavor-infused cigar made in the Dominican Republic with an Indonesian wrapper, Dominican binder and a blend of Dominican filler tobaccos. The cigar became available during April 2026 in one Robusto (5 x 50) size that is priced at $9.89 per stick. For more information about these cigars, please see thepress release. We do not review many flavored cigars, but we might occasionally smoke a couple for a change of pace. Although flavored tobacco products are not banned at the federal level, certain states and localities have restricted their sale. However, unlike Cuban cigars, flavored cigars are not illegal to possess or enjoy by U.S. consumers. So in other words: Smoke 'em if you got 'em! The sample M by Macanudo Myers's Rum cigar began with an intense sweet rum flavor, but not exactly the same taste as Myers's rum straight from a bottle. Just like in a cocktail, the overall flavor was not the same as just one of the individual ingredients. I would expect that the tobacco used in flavored cigars is not the most flavorful of premium tobaccos, since that would defeat the purpose of infusing the cigar with artificial flavors in the first place. The tobacco would need to have a more neutral taste and be somewhat smooth and mild, such as many Dominican filler tobaccos. After the first few minutes, the sweet flavor (much sweeter than any natural tobacco) gradually became less intense, but still lasted for the entire duration of the cigar. The body consistently remained in the mild-to-medium range. I ashed the cigar twice during the smoking session at 20-minute intervals, and continued smoking for an additional 10 minutes down to 1½ inches remaining after 50 minutes of total smoke time. The burn was occasionally a bit uneven and despite correcting itself a few times, the cigar still needed a couple of touch-ups. No relights were required, and the cigar held a long ash and had a good draw. The sample M by Macanudo Myers's Rum cigar was a decent smoke worthy of a good rating of 3.5 points on a 5-scale. It can be somewhat tenuous rating a flavored cigar, especially if you really like or dislike the artificial flavors. I happen to enjoy a variety of dark rums, but mostly enjoy Myers's Rum as a floater on frozen pina coladas. However, that did not influence my opinion of this cigar.

While the M by Macanudo Toro won't appeal to traditional premium cigar smokers, it definitely could to those that like the flavored stuff. If this cigar provided more of the advertised flavor in the smoking experience, I could see going back to it, but with the profile I experienced, I don't have any interest in revisiting it.
