Coffee | Fruit/floral | Leather Citrusy and floral-fruity. Well-behind that and those, a stiff savory leather. Beef jerky-ish. Some Italian roasted coffee beans. Cream tries to cushion in ebbs and flows, eventually toasts and gets absorbed into a smoky hardwood. Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 cigars are made in the Dominican Republic with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that was aged for 10 years, a Honduran binder, and a blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Brazilian filler tobaccos. These cigars debuted in July 2023, and are available in three sizes including a Robusto (5 x 50) priced at $11.99, which is the subject of this review. For more information about the cigars, please check out thepress release. The sample Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 cigars began with a rich and full earthy flavor along with notes of spice and just faint hints of cedar and sweetness. One of the samples was a bit fuller than the others, but the flavors in all samples were definitely Maduro-forward. The body was medium-plus, and the cigars were not at all overpowering. After about 20 minutes, a leather taste emerged as the smoke became smoother. The taste was still Maduro-forward, which should delight fans of Maduro cigars. Some cigars made with Maduro wrappers do not have as much of a Maduro flavor as these Macanudo Vintage Maduro's. However, cigars made entirely with Maduro tobaccos (including filler and binder) could actually provide an overdose of a Maduro taste, and are not as well-balanced. The Macanudo Maduro Vintage 2013 cigar is all about the wrapper. On average, the wrapper usually delivers around 50% of a cigar's flavor, but in this case, the percentage is a bit higher. The filler worked pretty well in complementing and not competing with the taste of the wrapper. It took me about 55 minutes to smoke the sample Macanudo Vintage 2023 Maduro Robusto cigars down to about 1¾ inches remaining. These cigars were very well made and did not have any construction issues. The draw was very good, the burn even, and the length of the ash was medium-to-long. My rating of 4.25 points on a 5-point scale is indicative of a superior premium cigar.
