Dragon Fire by Punch

Simply Stogies · Oct 21, 2024

Punch (non-Cuban), like so many other cigar manufacturers, have followed in the footsteps of Davidoff by releasing cigars to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. The past few years Punch releases have followed the theme of Chinese take-out orders: the Egg Roll, Chop Suey, Spring Roll, and Kung Pow!. The exception to that theme was...

Punch Dragon Fire

Cigar Aficionado · Apr 23, 2024 · Cigar Insider

Topped with a notably flat head, this dark robusto has a fine draw and burn. It's a bold smoke with red pepper spice and cocoa powder at its core, accented by notes of leather, gingerbread and licorice. The finish is spicy.

Punch Dragon Fire

Halfwheel · Jun 8, 2024 · Feb. 1, 2024

Thick and bold, the Punch Dragon Fire’s profile is chock full of charred meat, oak and gritty earthiness, along with some noticeable red pepper and maple syrup sweetness on the retrohale. While each of the cigars needed a burn correction, the draws gave me no issues, and there was plenty of thick smoke from their feet. In the end, while there are better cigars in Punch's Chinese New Year Series, fans of earthy, meaty profiles in larger ring gauge cigars will find a lot to like from this release.

Punch Dragon Fire

Cigar Dojo · Apr 5, 2024

Punch brings a touch of fun and tradition to the table with their Chinese New Year Series, and the Dragon Fire is no exception. This chunky 5” x 60 robusto gordo boasts a dark Mexican wrapper and a blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar's appearance is striking, with a sharp, flat head reminiscent of old M-1000 firecrackers. The cigar surprises with its quick ignition, offering flavors of dark chocolate, musty wood, and red pepper, settling at a medium/full intensity throughout the majority of the experience. Despite a loose draw, the slow burn produces a voluminous smoke, revealing notes of dry cedar, tangy leather, and red pepper spice. Despite some burn issues and a hot finish, the Dragon Fire provides a long, flavorful smoke at an affordable price point.

PUNCH DRAGON FIRE

Comedy Cigars Music · Mar 2, 2024

Dragon Fire kicks in with some spice. Not burning any cities down, just warming up. Some light earth helps smooth out the edges, and a very light cedar melts into those soft edges. Clean earth through the nose; spice clings to the nostrils. Leather, earth, and a tingle of spice on the finish.Touches of mustard and mayonnaise find

Punch Dragon Fire

Developing Palates · May 8, 2024 · February 2024

The start of the Punch Dragon Fire offered up some interesting flavor combinations, but for the remainder of the review, the profile was linear and lacked the dynamic character of the first third. Overall, there wasn't much here to elevate the Punch Dragon Fire from the crowd, although it was overall a pleasant cigar to review and the price point is quite attractive.

Punch Dragon FireYear of the Dragon 2024

CigarCzars · Mar 5, 2024

Punch Dragon Fire Year of the Dragon 2024 is the sixth in an annual series of limited edition Chinese New Year cigars. These cigars were released on February 1, 2024, in time for the start of the Year of the Dragon on February 10, 2024. Punch Dragon Fire cigars were made in Nicaragua with a Mexican wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and a blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran and Dominican filler tobaccos. The cigars are available in one size measuring 5 x 60, and are priced at $6.99 per stick. Year of the Dragon cigars are constructed to have a flat head and a partially closed foot (where extended wrapper leaf is folded and pressed down over the end of the binder and filler bunch). For more information about these cigars, please check out thepress release. The sample Punch Dragon Fire cigar began very predominant flavors of leather and pepper. The wrapper leaf covering the bunch at the foot of the cigar made it easier to light. The flavors began to moderate after about 10 minutes, and then settled in to a balanced and enjoyable medium-to-full bodied smoke for the remainder of the cigar. It took me 55 minutes to smoke the Punch Dragon Fire cigar down to 1¾ inches remaining. During that time, no relights nor touch-ups were required. The cigar was impeccably constructed and had a very good draw, even burn, and held a long ash. Overall, I rate the Punch Dragon Fire cigar with a good to very good 3.75+ points on a 5-point scale. They are a good value at $7 per cigar, and the blend will only be only available until the supply released on February 1st is exhausted.
