Undercrown 10 Factory Floor Edition

Drew Estate gets “All Dekk'd Out” to celebrate a “Decade of Dedication” with the release of the Undercrown 10. This anniversary cigar is a celebration of the Undercrown line of cigars, born on the factory floor by the Liga Privada-crazed torcedores in 2011. This dark and oily Mexican San Andrés-wrapped cigar hides its sheen with a very gritty tooth on the tobacco itself. Upon first light, you are greeted with medium-to-full-bodied notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and smooth leather, with sharp black pepper present on the tongue and in the retrohale. Smoke billows off the foot of the cigar, even in between puffs, in true Drew Estate fashion. Finishing out, I have found that the Undercrown 10 stayed consistent in its flavors throughout, though I wouldn't have minded seeing a little more complexity in the transitions during the smoking experience.

Drew Estate had an interesting way of showing off its new Undercrown 10th Anniversary line. It was actually first shipped unbanded as a mystery cigar as a part of their Freestyle Live event before the cigar was announced. We reviewed that cigar and event pack here. During the show it was revealed that the cigar was the Drew Estate Undercrown 10, a cigar celebrating the 10th anniversary of the original Undercrown. It joins the existing Maduro, Shade and Sun Grown lines. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend for Drew Estate Undercrown 10 uses a Mexican San Andres wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan fillers. There are regular production sizes all in 20 count boxes: Toro (6 x 52) $12, Robusto (5 x 50) $11.75, Corona Viva (5 x 43) $10.50, and Corona Doble (7 x 50) $13.50. There is also a limited-edition “Factory Floor Edition” which is a 6 x 46 $13.60 lonsdale, but has not been released yet. This also come in a 20-count box and will also include a “tobacco leaf library,” meaning a sample of each individual leaf comprising the blend. There will also be an event only size, the Undercrown 10 Tuani Belicoso (6 x 52) only be available at event hosted by Pedro Gomez. This will be packaged in coffins of two similar to the Liga Privada “A” and Undercrown Manifesto.

Undercrown 10 Robusto

I really enjoyed the Liga Privada 10 Aniversario and so was looking forward to trying the newest commemorative release from Drew Estate. While the Undercrown 10 Robusto is nowhere close to as good as the aforementioned Liga Privada, I found it to be a richer, more complex version of the Undercrown blend, Corona ¡Viva! notwithstanding . The main flavor combination of dark chocolate and floral is not one I taste in cigars very often and it was only enhanced by the plum sweetness on the retrohale, albeit not as much as I would have liked at certain points in the profile. Construction was very good overall, while the medium-plus strength was well-integrated, making the Undercrown 10 a cigar that I can easily recommend you trying, especially if you have found the regular Undercrown line lacking.

Today I’m smoking a recent release from Drew Estate, Liga Undercrown 10 in the 7 by 50 Corona Doble size. I can’t wait to smoke new cigars during the spring when I’m most in search of fresh meat to add to my weekly rotation. This is the time of year I anticipate filling the big empty basin, aka my swimming pool, in the backyard. Assembling a lineup of new smokes to accommodate my nonstop outdoor agenda of grilling, swimming, and slamming cold beers is priority number one. It's hard to believe Liga Privada Undercrown has been around for a decade already, but it has.

Drew Estate Undercrown 10 Toro

The Drew Estate Undercrown 10 Toro was a good cigar. It was a little one dimensional, and a little heavy on the earth, but there were some flavors that popped out throughout. I would have liked for a stronger finish, and I think that would have made a difference in the cigar. I am interested in smoking the blend in a smaller vitola offering, and really seeing how it smokes all around.
